We may leave but we always come back. We always find our way home – the Philippines, who made us who we are. A proud Filipino made a masterpiece, “Blonde and Blue Eyes” which signifies her love for the country who is the one and only, Patricia Evangelista. Would you leave or love the country for good? Most of the Filipinos now, tends to work abroad to be able to find greener pastures and for their family here in the Philippines to be able to live a good life. In the country’s history, as our identity, we have been colonized by the Spaniards, the Japanese and the Americans, meaning, our pure Filipino culture is diverse from generation to generation. Philippines right now will not be the same if not because of them. Evangelista defined Filipino Diaspora as a trend and not an anomaly because they do not want to feel and be left behind. Even her at first, disapproves this because she does not want to be left behind but as she ages, she realized her priorities and had a change of heart. Her purpose as a speaker was to let everyone of us be proud of the place where we grew up and lived in and the identity that we have no matter where we are in this world. She reminded us about our country and our haven as our home and will always be the home of a Filipino. Filipino Diaspora or the migration of most Filipinos should be understood because we have a big population of fresh graduates who needed work and who had the skills which we cannot make use of since we are still in the process of developing our economic state or what we all may call as globalization. Thinking about them makes us want to go home and simply share with them what we achieved. As individuals, we cannot deny that we may take advantage of the opportunities but we must not forget that we must come home. Her speech functions as a realization that everyone of us, her fellow Filipinos, should know that leaving our country is not a matter of choice but it is about coming back to the place where we grew up and lived in. This was easier to understand because the issue is relatable to everyone, especially to her and to our generation. We share the same opinion and feeling towards this issue. It is one’s instinct to serve the country he or she came from. Globalization does well to our country, that even though we left our country, we still remain who we are because being loyal to our country is not bound by time and place. Wherever we are, we should proudly say that we are Filipino and we are the Filipino. We may enter the borderless world, one cannot deny that we always come home to where we belong and Filipinos always belong to the Philippines. Love our country as much as we embrace our identity.
