Genghis Khan Jekyll and Hyde Figure Final Exam alternate assignment – due by Tuesday Jan 29th at 11:59pm General Instructions/Introduction: Over the course of time, Genghis Khan’s legacy has been debated. Should he be remembered for the role he played in connecting parts of the world and the positive developments that stemmed from it, or should he be remembered for all the negative consequences that followed his conquests? You will consider this question as you create a Genghis Khan with a splitpersonality in the manner of the main character in Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novel titled The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The names of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the two alter egos of the main character, have become shorthand for the exhibition of wildly contradictory behavior. Step 1: Watch the TED-Ed video History vs. Genghis Khan to help you gain perspective as to Genghis and his legacy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq-Wk3YqeH4 Step 2: Using information from the above video, Unit 4 notes, your Genghis Khan POV assignment, and other reliable resources, complete the following chart to help you plan your Jekyll and Hyde figure that you will be creating. Include as many positive and negative aspects as you can think of – you will need at least 4 detailed examples for each side in order to potentially earn full credit for the assignment. Positive Aspects of Columbus’ impact Negative Aspects of Columbus’ impact Step 3: Based on your chart, create a “Jekyll and Hyde” figure of Genghis that illustrates and explains his “split” legacy. One side should portray how he could be considered a “hero” and the other how he could be considered a “villain.” The portrayal must include illustrations and annotations. Use the blank template provided for your creation. Refer to the last page of this assignment for an example (note that the example does not meet all the requirements that you are expected to meet – see the below list for your requirements). Requirements: Complete the chart prior to designing your Genghis Jekyll and Hyde figure. Label/title your overall figure at the top and label each side of your figure according to which aspect of Columbus’ impact it represents. Use creativity in your labeling (for example don’t just write GOOD and BAD). Figure must be given a face, clothes, etc. and should be colored in with colored pencils or nonbleeding markers (you may also choose to do this digitally if you are good at that kind of stuff). Each side should reflect the appropriate aspect of Columbus’s legacy. Include at least 4 annotations and related images for each side. More effort earns a higher grade. Must be neat and legible. *I promise you are not being graded on your artistic abilities. Submit your completed chart and your figure by the deadline (see above for due date). EXAMPLE FROM US HISTORY
