AP WORLD HISTORY SUMMER ASSIGNMENT
In order to be fully prepared for the Advanced Placement World History Modern exam in the
spring we must start over the summer months. AP World History has changed this year to
Modern history from 1200 CE to the present. Please see me in Room 2213 with any questions
at all or email me at astackhouse@gloucesterschools.com .
Our Summer Sessions will be in the Creation Lab in the Library on the following days :
Session 1 - July 17 at 8:30 am -11:30 am
Session 2 - July 18 at 8:30 am -11:30 am
Session 3 - July 19 at 8:30am -10:30 am

Assignment 1: Below are some of the major topics in World History. You are to research one of
your choosing from 1200 CE - today (some may not have all of the dates) and create a visual
representation and presentation of your findings to be done the second day of school:
1. Belief systems
2. Revolutions/Nationalism
3. Networks of exchange (silk roads, Mongols, Indian Ocean, etc)
4. Land-based Empires
5. Ideologies
6. Technological advancements that changed the world
7. Industrialization
8. Imperialism and decolonization
9. Globalization
10. Cold Wars
Assignment 2: You are to read Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World. By
Jack Weatherford and write the paper below. This is due when you walk into class on the first
day of school. You may email/share it to me earlier if you wish.

The Khan family made significant contributions to history. How did Genghis Khan “make” the
modern world? How did Pax Mongolica contribute to the development of globalization?
This is a 3-4 page paper typed in Times New Roman 12 pt. font, double space (no extra spaces
between paragraphs) 1 inch margins (all sides), typed page numbers, no bolding, no
contractions (ex. Don’t, can’t, won’t/ do not, cannot, will not), no abbreviations, and no use of
the words I or You.

The only source you are allowed to use for this paper is the Jack Weatherford’s book Genghis
Khan and the Making of the Modern World
.
This is NOT a group assignment – plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in a
grade of a zero for all parties involved.
There are 1 other books you will need later in the year :Cracking the AP World History:
Modern Exam, 2020 Edition by Princeton Review.
