High Tenacity Yarn What Does It Mean and Its Uses What does the tenacity of fiber mean? The term "tenacity" of fiber tells the strength of the yarn. It indicates the force that the fiber requires to be broken or ruptured. Usually, the measurement is grams per denier. The higher the tenacity, the better will be the quality of the yarn. What does high tenacity yarn mean? By high tenacity yarn, it is meant that the yarn is highly durable, has more strength than the normal one and also has high chemical resistance to different adverse situations. High tenacity yarns are also resistant to extremely hot environments and other weather conditions which on the other hand can put the conventional multi-filaments into their threshold limits. Uses of high tenacity yarn: There are some uses of yarn where high tenacity is one of the main criteria to be fulfilled. ● Lifting of heavy materials: From the day high tenacity yarn existed, it has revolutionized the material handling the most. It has replaced the metal wires or chains that were previously used for lifting heavy materials. This product is now known as webbing slings. The benefit of high tenacity yarn is that it has more width than the chain or wire rope. So, the reaction force on the object that is being lifted gets distributed throughout. This ensures no damage to the steel coils. High tenacity yarn has low elongation property which makes it best for lifting purposes. Usually, a webbing sling has 3% to 7% elongation under heavy load. This ensures that the whole process gets easier for the crane operators. Another benefit of using high tenacity yarn to lift heavy equipment instead of chain or wire ropes is that it is way easier to handle. It weighs only 20 to 30 % in comparison with the former one. This is also pocket friendly when compared to the previous one. ● Lashing of cars: As mentioned earlier, the low elongation and higher strength of the high tenacity yarn has another important use in the lashing of cars. A Smaller amount of yarn can hold a car in position for the entire journey across the ocean. When high tenacity yarn was not a thing, big wooden wedges had to be nailed all across the car to ensure its security. So clearly the invention of high tenacity yarn has made the job easier and more feasible. Other uses: 1. Nowadays, in every event, function and get together, people need banners to represent their objectives. In banners, high tenacity yarn is used, because it needs durability. 2. Roofing should be durable and strong. So, yarns with higher tenacity are preferred due to their strength and resistance to temperature and corrosion and other adverse circumstances. 3. The number of vehicles is increasing. So, for the seat belt in the four-wheeler, high tenacity yarn is used due to its low elongation capacity and higher durability. People prefer stronger and long-lasting seat belts. 4. Geotextiles are generally strong synthetic fabrics that are being used in different civil construction projects. High tenacity yarn is preferred to be used for geotextiles as well. 5. Mooring is a collection of devices connected to a wire which is anchored to the seafloor. When the depth of the sea is more, it is preferred to use high tenacity yarns instead of conventional ones to get the job done because of their strength and durability. Bottom line: Looking at all the advanced uses of high tenacity yarn, it is obvious to land to the conclusion that this is one of the best innovations in that particular industry. Due to its durability and strength, it has replaced age-old equipment and given the best results.
