Lesson 2: Lab task:
Types of muscles
Textbook page 30
Since we are unable to use and share a microscope, the
microscopic images are given below:
Question 1:
Describe the shape of each of these muscle cells.
Cardiac: Cylindrical, straight, branched
Skeletal: Cylindrical, like a pack of sausages, unbranched
Smooth: narrow at both ends and broad in the middle
Question 2:
Locate the nucleus and state where is it in each cell.
Cardiac and smooth muscles: Nucleus is the centre
Skeletal: spread throughout the cell/periphery of the cell
Question 3:
Do any muscle cells show more than one nucleus? If yes, then
which one?
Yes, the skeletal muscles
Question 4:
Describe the arrangement of the cells in the tissue. Do they have
a pattern or are they randomly arranged?
All the cells are arranged lengthwise
Cardiac muscle cells are branched
Skeletal muscle cells are arranged as a bundle of sticks together
Smooth muscle cells are close to each other
Cardiac muscle cells and skeletal muscle cells have striations
Conclusion:
Create a table to differentiate between the three types of muscle
tissues.
Meanings:
Striated : to have light and dark bands
Vicera: Covering of internal organs like stomach, lungs, etc.
