Almazan, Princess Juzen G. BSA 1-7 2020-01048 1.1 Sumerian Civilization The Sumerian Civilization had several inventions and discoveries that helped with the development of the world, one of these is Hydraulic Engineering. Hydraulic Engineering is a branch of civil engineering that deals with the use and control of flowing water (Meriam Webster, n.d.). In relation to this, the Sumerians discovered how to harness and redirect the Euphrates and Tigris rivers’ power and flow to utilize it for irrigation (Kiger, 2019). The said breakthrough started the constructions of complex canals, dams, etc. which helped the farmers to effectively and efficiently water their lands (Kiger, 2019). Thus far, the discovered engineering is still consistently used to make the farmers’ irrigation and fertilization job easier, and it also introduced innovations such as ditches, dams, and other machineries which are further improved and currently utilized.
