DIESEL ENGINE OVERSPEED TESTING

This procedure is to allow testing of the over‐speed shutdown on Zone 2 Diesel Power Units fitted with the JCB‐444 engine.
Read this fully and understand what is required at each step, before proceeding.
Note: The overspeed shutdown is a safety device which must be tested at service intervals, but not adjusted without consultation with your
operations or engineering department.
1.
Adjust the fuel pump end‐stop to allow the engine to rev higher.
2.
Test the RPM of the power unit using the operator handle. Note maximum RPM on the gauge.
3.
Repeat 1 & 2 until unit shuts down and note the max RPM on the gauge at shutdown. Do not exceed 2500RPM.
WARNING: If the engine does not shut down after 2400 RPM refer to over speed setting.
Note results on the service checklist.
Adjust the fuel pump end‐stop back to the original setting as in step 1.
Test the maximum 2200 RPM can be reached without the unit shutting down.
