Everybody's worried about stopping terrorism. Well, there's a really easy way: stop participating in it. (Noam
Chomsky)
Terrorism is one of the major global threats nowadays and one of the most serious issues that cause concern to
the international community. The solution to this problem has to be found yet. There is an opinion of Noam
Chomsky on the topic that says, “Everybody's worried about stopping terrorism. Well, there's a really easy way:
stop participating in it.” I can partially agree with this statement.
In my view, to stop participating in the prevalence of the terrorist threat is the first but not the last or even the
main step to be taken in order to combat terrorism.
There are at least three things that the states should control and prevent on both national and international levels.
First of all, weapons trade with suspicious clients should be thoroughly checked and prohibited including the
transfer of technologies. Secondly, funding any activities that can be indirectly related to terrorists must be halted,
as it allows terrorist organizations to expand and strengthen. The third measure is related to the countries where
large terroristic organizations are located and implies not using terrorism as a means to spread a state's ideology
as it only brings more chaos to the world and cannot be a long-lasting solution.
To my mind, these measures will help greatly in the issue of achieving global peace. Still, we need more profound
changes in the global system and a comprehensive approach to the problem.
In this case, it is necessary not just to solve this particular problem but also to focus on the creation of the world
where there is no place for such extremist activity. That means ensuring healthy environment and high living
standards that allow people to live a decent, peaceful life. This involves addressing such issues as inequality in
different spheres and poverty and fostering better social standards based on inclusion and tolerance. What is
more, education and work with young people are vital to cultivate important values and give them a sense of
security and responsibility for their own lives and the lives of others.
I believe that we need to develop a culture of peace and mutual respect, not a culture of war.
Taking everything into account, I therefore conclude that the end of participation in terrorism is a necessary part
but not a complete solution to the problem yet. We should use a more comprehensive approach to this issue and
create a society that will not need to engage in terrorist actions in order to live the way they want.
