1. a) This means that cabbages can produce their own food with solar energy. It doesn't
require the energy of other animals because it produces it's own food and also provides to
others.
b) i) Hawk
ii) Thrush
c) The arrow between the cabbages and the caterpollars represents the transfer of food and
energy.
d) i) Bacteria and fungi
ii) Light and warmth will help to speed up the process.
2. i) Decrease number of snails- Because the fish is a predator, if there are more snails, it will
kill and eat them.
ii) No effect on number of snails- Because the scuds come from a sperate food source.
ii) Decrease the number of snails- If the plants are removed then green algae can't grow and
the snails will get hungry and die.
iv) Increase the number of snails- Snails will have enough food to reproduce since the green
algae will grow so it will increase.
3. Barnacle/ whale- Commensalism(+/0)
Honey guide bird/ Badger- Mutualism(+/+)
Ostrich/Gazelle- Mutualism(+/+)
Mistletoe/Spruce tree- Parasitism(+/-)
Remore/Shark- Commensalism(+/0)
Bee/Maribou stork- Commensalism(+/0)

4) a) So, if it's kept in a strong section of the stream, there will be fewer organisms because
most animals can't keep their hold and hence cant eat the dry leaves. On the other hand on the
rather slower stream area with slower water current the leaves will be gone as organisms will
feed on it.
b) Shrimp
c) The role that an organism plays in its environment is referred to as its niche. By their
actions all organism play a function in the environment and this is their niche. The transfer of
energy is the organism's most important role.
3) What animals can live in a stream depends on a number of factors. They are- Temperature,
oxygen and food in the water are all critial. Because the water in the galeier is extremely cold
at first, there wont be many organisms in it. There would be an increasing number of micro
organisms at first, followed by the appearance of fish. Some fish that reproduce in such water
temperatures i believe it will come to lay eggs. Algae and small plants will grow which would
be enogh for shrimp, snails and other sea animals. Fresh water fish such as catfish, and others
will be present since they can easily adjust to changing water conditions. There can be a large
number of microorganisms living there.
Criteria D) It may have gotten so much attention because it is a new kind of virus that can
infect humans. Also, untill the pandemic we did not know anything about it. It's also possible
that it's due to our collective memory of previous virus outbreaks. Another factor is that the
media is focusing more on it. It is a virus that can be killed by our bodies. But many people in
today's world do not live a healthy lifestyle.
