Symbiotic Relationships Symbiotic Relationships SYMBIOSIS refers to the relationship between organisms of different species that show an intimate encounter with each other. AT LEAST one of the participating species MUST be provided a nutritional advantage. 3 TYPES of Symbiotic Relationships: 1. Parasitism 2. Commensalism 3. Mutualism Parasitism -- Video Interaction in which the PARASITE derives nutrients from the HOST. This relationship is not good for the host, but great for the parasite. Commensalism – video Interaction in between two species, where one organism benefits while the other is not harmed. Organism benefits usually by feeding or protection Mutualism – video Interaction between two species where BOTH organisms benefit. They exchange food and shelter, and sometimes even protection.
