A REVIEW OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FOOTING AND FOUNDATION A Research Study Presented to Prof. Merhanna Pangandaman Department of Civil Engineering College of Engineering Mindanao State University Marawi City In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Course CE 162 (Design of Concrete Structures II) 1st Semester, 2020-2021 By John Bernil March 2021 Introduction Footing and Foundation are very important in construction. It is important also that we know what is footing, the types of footing, what is foundation, types of foundation and also the differences between footing and foundation. What is Footing Footing is generally supporting columns. It may be round, square, or rectangular in shaped. Example of footing type are slab, stepped or sloping type. They are mostly rebar reinforced concrete. Footing are important especially in areas with soil problems. There are eight types of footing. The Isolated footing, combined footing, continuous wall footing, strap footing, strip footing, raft footing, pile footing, and spread footing. Types of Footing 1. Isolated Footing 2. Combined Footing 3. Continuous wall footing 4. Strap footing 5. Strip footing 6. Raft footing 8. Spread Footing 7. Pile footing What is Foundation A foundation is a part of the building that is located at the bottom that passes the gravity load of the building to the earth. A strong foundation is required in order for a building to stand and survive for decade or even centuries. Foundations are commonly separated into two distinct categories: shallow foundations and deep foundations. Types of Foundations: I. Shallow foundation i. Individual footing or isolated footing ii. Combined footing iii. Strip foundation iv. Raft or mat foundation II. Deep foundation I. Pile foundation a) End Bearing pile b) Friction pile II.
