Thanks to the development of transportation. Tourism is regarded as a major source of national
income for a lot of nations all over the world. However, tourism can cause problems without correct
management. My essay below will analyze both the pluses and the minuses of the idea.
On the one hand, Tourism in the modern world has several pluses. Firstly, Tourism promotes and
contributes to the development of the national economy. Tourists spend money on a wide range of
services, including hotels, amusements, transportation, food, and etc. This way, tourism yields
income, greatly supporting economies. Second, tourism helps us to broaden our horizons. Every time
we come to a new land, we will be exposed to the unique people and lifestyles of that place, and it is
these things that will make us absorb the quintessence of many different cultures. For instance, when
tourists from other countries come to Vietnam, they would have the opportunity to use chopsticks,
enjoy traditional meals, and go sightseeing in the countryside.
On the other hand, Tourism in the modern world has several minuses. Initially, the main disadvantage
of this destroys natural habitats. when places of interest are overcrowded, natural resources often
become overexploited. For example, to meet the increasing demand for tourists a large amount of
infrastructures such as hotels and restaurants is built, etc. leading to the local environment’s
deterioration. In other words, tourism may affect local cultures negatively. Traditional jobs and skills
die out. For instance, Traditional jobs like farming and fishing may die out. Must instead Local people
are forced to work in the tourist industry.
In conclusion, despite some benefits mentioned above, the negative effects of having tourism in the
modern world destroy natural habitats and local affected cultures negatively are inevitable.
