Students will be able to…
• Identify the group number, valence electrons, Lewis symbol, ion charge, cation/anion,
and metal/nonmetal/metalloid for Alkali Metals, Alkaline Earth Metals, Boron group,
Carbon group, Nitrogen group, Oxygen group, Halogens, and Noble Gases.
• Identify general properties for metals.
• Identify general properties for nonmetals.
• Identify groups and lists of elements located in the same group have similar
properties.
• Identify that elements in the same group react similarly.
• When given various information about atomic number, atomic mass, valence
electrons, charge, cation/anion, atomic radius, and ionization energy – students will
determine which element is being discussed.
• Label atomic radius, ionization energy, and electron affinity trends with arrows on the
Periodic Table.
• Identify that Mendeleev arranged the Periodic Table by atomic mass and Mosely by
atomic number.
