Campus Closure: If campus is closed because of snow or another emergency, when class resumes we will start where we left off. I will try to send a message to the class through Canvas. If the campus is closed for more than one day during the quarter, our schedule may be changed and students may be expected to complete extra out-of-class activities. Math Learning Center: The Math Learning Center in room 4213 is open to students taking math classes. Math Learning Center tutors work with students one problem at a time on a drop-in basis, involving them in the learning process to promote increased understanding of the concepts. The Math Learning Center provides a math-dedicated environment in which students are welcome to work on their math homework individually or in groups even if no math help is needed. More information at http://www.shoreline.edu/math-learning-center/ Tutoring Services: Tutoring Services provides students with free one-on-one tutoring support for any SCC classes. We also host drop-in learning centers for biology/chemistry, physics, accounting/economics, and business technology/eLearning as well as language conversation groups (schedules and availability vary). Page 2 of 3 Math& 163 Fall 2017 Hardy Academic Dishonesty: Besides receiving or giving unauthorized help during an exam, cheating includes copying assignments, or allowing your assignments to be copied. Do not turn in anything you do not understand. I reserve the right to question you about anything you turn in. Cheating includes any attempt to defraud, deceive, or mislead me as I assess your academic achievement in this course. Plagiarism is a form of cheating. Allowing your work to be copied is also cheating. Penalties for Academic Dishonesty (including cheating and plagiarism – see college policy 5033 for more explanation): • • First Offense A zero for that assignment. A zero for an assignment received in this way will not be dropped (as a lowest score, etc.) and computation of the course grade will be adjusted (as minimally and fairly as possible) to reflect this. Second Offense – A 0.0 course grade and student will be reported to the college administration for possible additional disciplinary action. This applies even for students who selected P/NC grading. Sex / Gender Discrimination: Title IX makes it clear that violence and harassment based on sex and gender is a Civil Rights offense subject to the same kinds of accountability and the same kinds of support applied to offenses against other protected categories such as race, national origin, etc. As your instructor, I have a mandatory reporting responsibility, and I am required by law to share information with the College regarding sexual discrimination, such as sexual harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence, and gender-based stalking.
