advertisement
Week of October 5th
7th Grade Science | Fall 2020 – Group Assignment
EARTH’S MOST DESTRUCTIVE FORCES OF NATURE PRESENTATION
What: Each group will work as a team to research destructive forces of nature on planet Earth (see list
below). After researching to gather the information and data, team members will construct a presentation
(using PowerPoint, Google Slides, or any other presentation software), and then present their findings to
the class.
When: Presentations will start on Thursday September 18th. Time to work on this assignment will be given
throughout this week during class. Although some collaboration outside of class is advised where possible
Topics: Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Hurricanes, Tsunamis, Wildfires, Tornadoes. Note each group will pick
one topic. One member will need to edit the collaborative Master List after I announce and then post to the
Classroom to claim that topic for their group – *note to get your desired topic you should work quickly to
decide.
Details:
 Presentations must be seven or more slides and should take at least 10 minutes to deliver, but not
more than 20 minutes maximum.
 Each group must pick at least two major events. One must have happened in the 21st century (since
2000) and one must be older (any time prior to 2000).
 Your chosen events must have had a major impact on earth and its inhabitants. Therefore, ideally
your chosen event should be in the top five for most deadly, most destructive, or most impactful
events.
 Your presentation should include all the important details of the event. Such as when, where, how
destructive, and how long for recovery. It should also address the best preventative measures one
can take to prepare for such an event if you were to be involved in a similar disaster.
 Your presentation must include images and clear statistics to explain why the event was so
destructive. A video is acceptable but must be relatively short (<5 minutes); having a video will
require your presentation to be longer than 10 minutes, but not longer than 20 minutes. You may
even edit or stitch together the video’s or images which best show your destructive force.
 It is required that each team member participate in all aspects of this group project. This means
everyone helps with the research, putting together the presentation, and the actual presentation. It
is recommended that you split into two-person teams for the research portion and then work as a
team on the presentation.

During the presentation teams may split up slides and decide who presents them.
