V.2 - June 2017 Assignment Overview Africa is a vast continent made up of 54 countries, each with a varied history and culture. It is rich in resources and flora and fauna and is covered by a variety of terrains that shape the people who live in them. This region of the world evokes beauty and mystery and has the attention of many in the international arena. Using your ArcGIS Online account, you are tasked with exploring the largest cities in Africa, and you will look at the relationship between population density and bodies of water in the continent. The following tutorials should be referenced to help you complete the assignment: Introduction to ArcGIS Online - http://bit.ly/2n1AeMm Assignment Tasks 1. Sign into ArcGIS Online. 2. Search for “Exploring Africa ArcCanada” in the search box. Or click the link below: https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=88b07dd10eb84e1eb2ef200576f75d62 3. Open the Web map. 4. Use the Search bar to locate Africa. 5. Explore the continent and define the relationship that exists between population density and bodies of water. 6. Click Add and create Map Notes to show three of the most densely populated cities - Lagos, Cairo, and Kinshasa in Africa. Name the map notes layer “Densely Populated Cities” 7. Then select the Push Pin and place on the first densely populated city. Then the map note pops up for you to add details. Each map note should include: An applicable title, (city name) Unique and appropriate symbology, (push pin) Pictures (that you have found online) related to the location, o (Google an image. Once you have found one- right click it, select “Open Image in New Window” Then copy the link and paste it under “Image Url” And a description (at least 1-2 sentences). **After you have made all 3 map notes, click Details and hover over each pin to see your map notes** 8. Once you have created all the Map Notes, zoom into each of the cities and explore the surroundings. 9. Get Mrs. Bethune to check your map notes so she can assess your map. Reflection Questions: 1.
