Homework = Course Assignments
Students will have any where from
30-90 minutes of homework each
night. Please look in their agendas
for their nightly homework.
SOLs
In 5th grade students a Science,
Math, and Reading SOL at the end
of the year. All tests are on the computer. It is imperative that students
practice typing in order to be successful on these tests. Please make
sure your child is practicing typing at
home.

Studies
Math– This year we will continue using
the math program, Math Expressions.
This year in math students will continue
to develop number
sense, practice computation, and learn about
geometry, data, and
algebra. Fact fluency is
an important part of
being successful in 5th
grade. Please have your
child practice their math
facts regularly.
5th grade science is set
up to allow students to
explore the various science worlds. We
start with chemistry and molecules and
atoms. We will then learn about sound,
light, the five kingdoms of living things,
oceans, and the rock cycle.
Social Studies will take us on a journey
through America. Students will be studying the five regions; Northeast, Southeast,
Mid-West, Southwest and West. Students will learn about the people and
customs within each region by immersing
themselves in a state from that region.
Language Arts
Fifth Grade
In 5th grade students will learn
about literature and how it is an
influential part of our life. Our
students will write persuasive essays to make an impact on the
world. Students will
