1. THE UNIVERSE is space and everything that exists in it: galaxies, planets….
1.1 ORIGIN OF THE UNIVERSE: The most popular theory in science is the Big Bang
Theory. The Universe was created as a result of a massive explosion. Before the
explosion all the matter was condensed. After the explosion everything expanded and
when cooled formed galaxies.
1.2 GALAXIES: a galaxy is an enormous group of stars, planets, gases ad dust. Galaxies
are classified according to their shape: eliptical, spiral, barred- spiral or irregular
1.3. THE MILKY WAY: The milky way is a barred spiral galaxy with several arms. Our
solar system is located in the Orion arm.
