The four functions of management include planning, organizing, leading and controlling and I learned what each function of management consisted of. The Four Functions Of Management 3 The video that I watched this week for this course was about the four functions of management. The instructor starts out by saying that no matter what the organization is the four functions of management are the same. The first function of management is the planning stage, we should think of this stage as the managers setting up a direction for the organization to follow. The instructor emphasized another way for us to think about the planning function as setting up the objectives that will determine our organizations actions. Key words that were used to describe planning are Vision, mission, strategizing, goals and objectives. The second function of management is the organizing stage this function includes the manager delegating and organizing all the tasks and resources to achieve the objectives of the organization. Key words that were used to describe the organizing function are change of management, delegating, culture and organizational design. The third function of management is the leading stage this function includes how the manager will influencing the employees and their behavior to achieve the organizational objectives. Key words that were used to describe the leading function are leadership, motivation, communications, groups and teams. The fourth and final function of management is the controlling stage this function includes how the manager will establish processes and mechanisms to ensure that the organization achieves its objectives. Key words that were used to describe the controlling function are evaluation, quality control, system and process. The question was asked how the four functions of management be applied to management? The four functions of management are how management of a company or organization can use as a template to achieve the goals they are striving for like improving sales, improving the culture of the organization, improving patient care. In my opinion, managers can think of the four functions as a template to success in the organization, the road to success will not be easy but will take commitment and dedication by the organizations employees. Me as an employee of an organization I do not see the long hours my supervisor spends doing the planning and organizing functions of management.
