Biological Evolution The change in characteristics of living things over time How do organisms evolve? Adaptation The adjustment or changes in behavior, physiology, and structure of an organism to become more suited to an environment How do animals adapt? Mutations Random changes in DNA, usually during conception, that alter an organism’s features or behavior that can end up helping or hurting an animal’s ability to survive. Natural Selection Organisms that are better adapted (fit) to their environment survive to reproduce and pass on their DNA. Artificial Selection Organisms that are desirable to humans are kept alive despite their fit to the environment
