ORCHARD PARK HIGH SCHOOL COURSE OUTLINE WOOD TECHNOLOGY 20 Weeks – ½ credit 5 class periods per week Major Objective​: To study the field of Woodworking and to produce high quality wood products. This will be accomplished by using the latest technologies that are employed by woodworking businesses, only on a much smaller scale. Objectives: A. Students will gain knowledge, an understanding of and show proficiency in: 1. Structure of a basic business. 2. Production Planning. 3. Moving from the design to the production of a Wood item. B. Students will develop skills in: 1. Coordinating several steps of project production. 2. Setting up jigs and fixtures. 3. Safe use of hand and power woodworking tools and machines. C. Students will develop new attitudes in: 1. Awareness of the complexity and advantages of a production system. 2. The value of business and industrial skills necessary to produce items. 3. Good, practical and effective design. 4. Cooperation amongst production team members. Course Overview: The course will cover basic and advanced use of power equipment, mass production concepts and processes, production planning and project execution and completion. Evaluation: Tests, quizzes, performance checks, out-of-class assignments and completion of projects will be used for evaluation. Google classroom will be used heavily for turning in projects.
