Position Description – Youth Advisor February 2016 Page 1 ENTERPRISE & TRAINING COMPANY LIMITED 80 Grafton St, Coffs Harbour 2450 ABN 52 003 732 009 ROLE OVERVIEW: To provide intensive, pre-employment support to improve the work readiness of young people and to help them into work or education. This role has a strong focus on helping young people to understand what is expected in the workplace and to develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours expected by employers. This will be achieved by group facilitation and one on one case management. This role focusses primarily on one to one support to participants. ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: Develop and review individualised Job Plans and personal portfolios with participants to help them achieve their employment goals. Create an environment of trust, where participants feel connected, unique and respected and provide opportunity for youth input into services delivered. Provide individual case management, coaching and support to assist young people improve their employability, overcome any barriers and access employment, education, training and work experience opportunities. For example career planning, employer expectations, resumes, job applications and training, pre-interview coaching, and foundation skills such as the ability to work in a team, communication skills, motivation and reliability and willingness to work. Working with TtW Business Relationship Advisors, facilitate connections between young people and employers, educational institutions and community organisations to achieve employment, education, training and work experience placements. Assist Youth Workshop Facilitators as required with the development and implementation of group programs. Support participants using the physical facilities in ETC’s TtW sites, including computer facilities and on-line activities, and various external youth activity/support centres. Schedule and facilitate a highly individualised program (25-hrs per week participation) of employment and training focussed group, individual and self-paced activities, (internal and external to ETC) with each participant based on their cohort, needs, interests and skills – working with Youth Workshop Facilitators, TtW Business Relationship Advisors, jobactive and RTO staff and external organisations. Assist in setting up opportunities with local organisations working with youth and disadvantaged cohorts to refer participants to support programs and activities and to reach young people disengaged from employment and education. Assist in developing and/or implementing employment pathway strategies and other strategic approaches to assist young people achieve education and employment outcomes via internal and external relationships and funding opportunities. Strive to achieve goals set within the Transition to Work Deed including meeting program targets, adhering to the DoE Code of Conduct. Deliver and work in accordance with ETC’s approved TtW Service Delivery Plan. Monitor, review and record participants’ participation and progress and record and verify employment and training outcomes in accordance with DoE requirements. Provide support to participants, employers and education providers to convert job and education placements into sustainable outcomes. . Adhere to the Department of Human Services regulations and implement DoE Compliance Framework. SELECTION CRITERIA Essential – General Demonstrated minimum 2 years’ experience in working with youth or relevant experience to achieve employment and education outcomes Minimum relevant Certificate III or be willing to obtain one Highly developed intrapersonal, liaison assessment and negotiation skills Demonstrated ability to connect with a diverse range of people Passionate about creating new employment opportunities for young people Sound knowledge of local labour market linkages and business & community networks Capacity to effectively manage a case load of young TtW Participants, monitor their attendance and effectively record details on the IT system as prescribed in the Transition to Work Deed Outcome focussed with a commitment and capacity to achieve genuine employment and training outcomes for clients against KPI’s Highly developed IT skills in the use of the MS Office suite and DoE IT systems Demonstrated ability to provide effective post placement support Current clear Working With Children Check or Blue Card (QLD) and National Police Check Drivers licence Desirable Certificate IV Employment Services, or relevant discipline Previous experience in caseload management with disadvantaged people Note: This is a Transitional Position Description that is subject to changes as the business operations require during the transition to our new business model.
