CLASS TITLE: ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION SUPERVISOR
BASIC FUNCTION: Supervising crews of skilled electrical workers involved in the maintenance, repair, and construction of the municipally-owned electrical distribution system to assure continuous and reliable
electrical utility service.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This position is distinguished from Electrical Distribution Superintendent by the scope and breadth of management responsibilities, in that the Electrical
Distribution Superintendent manages the entire Electrical Distribution Division.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (It is important to note that the duties listed below are representative
only and are not intended to cover the full range or scope of duties in this class.)
1. Directly supervises and may perform complex and difficult on-site maintenance and service activities, including troubleshooting and fault identification to determine nature of problem and make corrections.
2. Develops weekly work schedules and plans workload requirements in accordance with designated priorities and objectives including organizing the crews' staffing and
equipment requirements.
3. Makes work assignments of electrical linemen and electricians based on established priorities.
4. Monitors and evaluates all activities of electrical linemen and electricians for effectiveness, completeness, and compliance with safety standards by inspecting work
in the field, reviewing daily work reports, and providing feedback.
5. Conducts safety meetings.
6. Writes store requisitions and purchase orders for necessary supplies or equipment.
7. Works closely with engineering personnel on new or revised installation projects involving compliance with specific designs or specifications.
8. Prepares monthly reports for the Electrical Distribution Superintendent on work accomplished, work in progress, and operational costs.
9. Coordinates new sub-station construction by consulting with engineering to determine
need for change orders, specification development, amounts of materials needed, and
by ordering materials, and inspecting work performed by outside contractors.
10. Establishes annual maintenance and performance objectives for the maintenance of
the electrical distribution system and manages performance toward achieving
objectives.
11. Prepares as-built maps of the electrical distribution system.
12. Reviews prior and upcoming expenditures to assure operational costs are within allowable limits.
13. Provides person-hour information for use in budget preparation and forecasts future requirements for personnel, materials, supplies, and equipment.
14. Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints by investigating issue to determine responsibility, and developing methods to resolve the problem.
15. Trains and develops employees, provides feedback, and responds to employee relations issues in order to maintain a competent and motivated workforce.
16. Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:







Theories and practices of construction, repair, and maintenance of high and low voltage electrical
lines.
Functions, use, and care of tools and materials used in electrical line work, house circuits, and
substation equipment.
Electrical theory.
Safety precautions necessary when working on high voltage electrical lines.
Applicable laws, codes and safety orders relating to electrical line work.
Theories and practices of electrical distribution planning and design.
Theories and practices of supervision.
ABILITY TO:







Train and supervise subordinates.
Coordinate work with other departments, divisions, and contractors.
Appropriately respond to citizen complaints.
Establish maintenance priorities.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Read and interpret electrical distribution construction plans and specifications.
Prepare and maintain accurate records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent and three years of
experience at a level equivalent to Senior Electric Lineman.
LICENSES: Possession of a Valid Class B Nevada Motor Vehicle Operator's License with tanker endorsement.
WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position directly supervises Senior Electric Linemen, Electric Linemen, Electricians, and Substation Technicians.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs physically demanding work in lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying heavy objects, and climbing power poles and steel towers.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Subject to adverse weather conditions and hazards associated with working at
heights, in precarious positions, with electrical equipment and wires.
