Fadal VMC Serial Numbers
The Serial Number Algorithm
When Fadal began manufacturing machines in the early 80’s, obviously how to construct serial
numbers was one of the first riddles that needed solving. Their answer was quite easy with the
year of manufacture leading the first 2 numbers, month of manufacture and the actual machine
number trailing. In the year 2000, the
scheme changed as you can see in the
below figure
In 2000, the idea was to add which line
of products they were manufacturing as
the first two digits, then year, month
and machine number from the assembly
line. Unfortunately, due to
mismanagement of the program,
remanufactured Fadal machines were
quite short lived. Now when you are
seeking a new machine from eBay, or
other site, you will know what year of
manufacture the machine was produced.
