ToturnunitON:PressandholdtheON/ZERObuttonfor1second,thenrelease.Thedisplay appearsandtherangefinderLEDsbegintoflashalternately.Zeroingtheunitadjuststheoffsets ofthemetertowithin2countstypicalor7countsmaximum. ToZEROunit:WithunitON,pointthesensorplateawayfromanychargedobject,pressandhold theON/ZERObuttonuntilreadingstabilizes,thenrelease.Asanalternative,pointittoward,but donottouch,aknowngroundedsurfacesuchasthepalmofyourhand.WhileZERObuttonis pressed,theLEDswillstopblinkingandonlytherightLEDwillremainlit(asviewedwhilereading themeter).DuringZERO,allannunciatorsareoffincludingDP(decimalpoint). 2.Dischargetheinstrument Grounding(discharging)yourbodyalsodischargestheinstrumentthroughitsconductivecase.Ifyou arenotwearingagroundedwriststrap,dischargeyourbodybytouchingagroundedmetalobject suchasawaterpipe,conduit,orworkbench.Asanalternative,placeagroundedwriststraparound theinstrumentitself.Theshellofthefrontpaneloutputjackcanbeusedtoprovidea“hard”orsoft groundconnection. 3.Takeareading Forvoltageslessthan20kV,movethesensorplateoftheinstrumenttowardthetargetsurface. Whentheinstrumentisexactlythecorrectdistance(1inch)fromthetarget,theimageprojectedby therangefinderLEDsappearsasastationarycircle.Toreadvoltagesof20kVandhigher,usethe distancesandmultiplyingfactorsgivenunder“Range”inSpecifications.Ifreadingsseem inconsistent,measureusingthegroundtooutputjackconnection. 4.HOLDareading PressandreleasetheHOLD/OFFbuttonforlessthan3seconds.Thepresentreadingisdisplayed alongwiththeword“HOLD”.Toconservebatterylife,theLEDsturnoffwhilethereadingisheld.To takeanothermeasurement,pressandreleasetheHOLD/OFFbuttonagain.ThisalsoresetstheAUTO SHUTDOWNTIMER. 5.TurntheinstrumentOFF PressandholdHOLD/OFFbuttonforlongerthan3seconds. 6. AUTOSHUTDOWNTIMER Duringnormaloperation(notduringZERO)ablinkingdecimalpointindicatestheAUTOSHUTDOWN TIMERisenabled.IftheAUTOSHUTDOWNTIMERisdisabled,thedecimalpointwillbeon continuously.HoldingdowntheZERObutton,whileunitisON,forlessthan3secondsresetsthe AUTOSHUTDOWNTIMER(ifenabled).TheAUTOSHUTDOWNTIMERisenabledordisabledby turningontheunitandkeepingtheON/ZERObuttonpressedthentogglingtheHOLD/OFFbutton.
