Job Title: Science Technician Summary of the role: We are seeking to appoint a Science Technician to support our team of science teachers in the Sidcot School Science Faculty. This post is a part time (20 hours per week) term time appointment with two additional weeks during the school summer holidays. The successful applicant will have a good working knowledge of the technical requirements of science education, particularly with regard to Biology. To work with the Senior Technician to support the science teachers in delivery of the practical component of science courses. Line management responsibility for: None Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact. Preparing apparatus, materials and solutions. Setting up and checking equipment and apparatus for use in practical classes. Retrieving and clearing away apparatus etc. Main duties and responsibilities: Keeping the laboratories and preparation rooms in a tidy, orderly and safe working condition. Disposal of waste laboratory materials including chemicals/microbiological waste in accordance with established guidelines. Participating in the maintenance of satisfactory standards of safety and security in relation to the technician service to teaching in the Science Department in accordance with the School/Authority policy including: – security of goods; – storage of chemicals safety precautions; Job Description and Person Specification – the relevant Health and Safety legislation such as COSHH. Providing support for the Academic Summer school for two weeks of the summer holiday. Any other appropriate duties as requested by the Head of Science.
