JOB DESCRIPTION: Science Technician

Lead Technician - Science Department
Hours of work:
This post is 35 hours per week / 42 weeks per year (Term time plus 5 INSET days,
plus 15 days holiday working. Holiday working to be agreed with Head of Science
The hours are 8.00 am to 4.00 pm
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Job Purpose:





To support the RPHS Science Department in delivering high quality Science learning experience through
preparation and planning for learning
To support the RPHS Science Department in delivering high quality Science learning experience through in
class support of staff and students
To support the extra-curricular provision at lunchtimes and after in the Science department
Help ensure the safeguarding of students in Science department.
To positively support the wider ethos of the school by actively focusing on the key RPHS values of learning
achievement, integrity and respect
Key Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities
Under the (overall) control of the
team-leader / senior technician, to
coordinate the use of
practical resources and facilities
and provide assistance and advice
in meeting the practical
needs of the science curriculum,
including liaising with teaching staff
and support staff outside the
department.
To ensure the maintenance of a
healthy & safe working environment
through:
• Actively contributing to the
assessment,
monitoring and review of both
health & safety procedures and
information resources;
Activities that are likely to be
carried out
 Preparation of resources,
assembling apparatus.
 Obtaining materials by local
purchase.
 Giving technical advice to
teachers, technicians and pupils /
students.
 Carrying out risk assessments for
technician activities.
 Assisting in practical classes &
