Siemens Remote Control Unit™ Monitor and control your rural network www.siemens.com/Fusesaver Answers for infrastructure and cities. An intelligent solution for rural networks Improving network reliability in a cost effective way is one of the most challenging tasks for power utilities today. 2 Reducing the number and duration of power outages and limiting the number of affected customers are important steps toward this goal. Remotely monitoring and controlling the network is key to achieving this. Siemens Fusesaver Ever increasing regulatory demands means medium voltage, rural electricity network operators are under pressure to gather accurate data about network performance. The Siemens Fusesaver is a self-powered, electronically controlled, single-phase fault interrupting device that is installed in series with a fuse to protect that fuse from transient faults. A short-range wireless communication module is fitted to Fusesaver allowing you to: manually operate using the Connect PC application configure protection modes download event log files from Fusesaver memory view live data on status of each device including time, type and magnitude of the most recent fault. connect with Siemens Remote Control Unit Control Fusesaver Add the Siemens Remote Control Unit (RCU) and interface Fusesaver with a SCADA system to provide remote access to Fusesavers throughout your rural network. Mounted beneath the Fusesaver, the RCU uses short-range radio to communicate with Fusesaver, and long-range backhaul radio or modem to remotely monitor and control Fusesavers via the utility SCADA system to: receive fault alerts remotely operate Fusesaver sites change protection modes from afar saving line crew cost and effort, and improving response time. 3 Bushfire mitigation Remote control of Fusesavers allows utilities in high-risk bushfire areas or on high-risk days to change protection by applying a different protection mode: Normal protection ‘Single shot’ using standard Fusesaver protection ‘Single shot’ with instantaneous trip (half cycle) for Code Red or extreme risk days Protection off Single shot modes allow supply to continue until any fault occurs then the Fusesaver trips and stays open. Supply can be reconnected remotely when required. Local/remote lockout capability enables line crews to disable Remote Control whilst they are working on the downstream line, ensuring supply is not reinstated unawares from afar. 4 Function connects wirelessly to Fusesavers fitted with Communications Modules via short range radio simple installation, requiring only mounting and connection of power and ground powered from 115/230VAC low voltage supply or solar panel (suitable locations only), eliminating the need for an additional VT (option available) power backup from 7AH 12V standard lead/acid battery provides sheltered accommodation for the backhaul radio/modem DNP3 over serial link communications protocol suits most SCADA systems / others available upon request variety of settings, including protocol configuration and radio interface. Configurable using the supplied PC configuration/maintenance tool. troubleshooting is simplified by an LED display showing status of processor, power supply, communications and Fusesavers. Additional fault finding can be performed with the PC configuration/maintenance tool purposely designed for outdoor use, not an adaptation of a general purpose RTU optional operator panel for local operator controls use almost any radio/modem, with a user-settable DC power supply, plus various signal interfaces, including serial data and ethernet 5 Specifications Value Power supply 115/230 VAC mains 12V/7.2Ah Battery backup Solar power option 6 Radio power supply User set variable 3-9V 2A or 12V battery supply 5A Radio data interface Serial asynchronous RS232 or user set logic levels variable 3-9V or 10/100 Base T Ethernet Radio compartment size 170 x 215 x 100mm Standard protocol DNP3 or others available upon request Weight 18 kgs Siemens Fusesaver with RCU – a well thought out system Fusesaver and RCU were developed as a part of an integrated system of tools and accessories.
