Break the Rules with a Ritek® Roof No Rules No Limits No Boundaries “The greatest crime in the world is not developing your potential” ROOF SYSTEMS “Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly” BIRDSEYE AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY www.birdseyephotography.com.au PROJECT: VIRIDIAN NOOSA ARCHITECT: JMA ARCHITECTS www.jma-arch.com IMAGINATION, FLEXIBILITY AND SPACE There’s nothing conventional about a Ritek® roof A Ritek® roof has great potential for creating new design concepts. For over 100 years, corrugated iron has provided shelter for Australian homes. Today, through smart design, Ritek® has preserved the unique Australian characteristic of corrugated iron and added insulation (EPS core) to create a high strength roofing system that can achieve industry leading spans of up to 11 metres, cantilevers of up to 4.2 metres and is close to 50% faster to install than a conventional roof. Available in straight, curved or multi-curved configurations, the roof is flexible in structure and allows designers to manipulate the design outcomes, by breaking the rules of conventional roof systems. The roof’s contemporary Australian hallmark creates permeable boundaries between the concepts of interior and exterior spaces while providing the building’s occupants with high thermal comfort of up to R5.05. When compared to a conventional roof system, a Ritek® roof can be installed in one quick and easy operation, can reduce trades and on-site labour components and can help eliminate the need for: - Obtrusive, expensive roof structures - Eave linings, plasterboard, internal painting, battens and insulation MADE IN AUSTRALIA and ideally suited to Australia’s harsh, cyclone prone environments, Ritek®’s insulated COLORBOND® roof systems offer an entirely Australian finish to any building project. Ritek’s award winning all-in-one insulated roof systems, provide high yield strength to any building through our industry leading unsupported spans of up to 11 metres and cantilevers that break all the rules, of up to an unrivalled 4.2 metres - unsupported. Our roof systems provide design flexibility and are available straight, as curves or even multi-curves to provide unobstructed views that allow internal space to evolve while greatly reducing the need for obtrusive and costly supports such as beams, posts and trusses. Protection from glare through our roof panel’s brilliant cantilever capability, allow designers with unlimited applications to maximize openings for windows for natural light. Make the most of local climatic conditions, capture cool breezes and improve interior space ventilation. Incorporating a Ritek® roof in your next project will reduce the need for air-conditioning by helping maintain temperatures for a higher level of thermal comfort, therefore reducing associated high energy costs and the building’s carbon footprint. The light weight architectural roof panels are long life and low in maintenance. They can be installed quickly and easily at a fraction of the time of conventional roofing construction methods, ensuring that a homeowner can move in sooner. A Ritek® roof system removes the boundaries and limitations that constrain conventional roof design. In order to create a uniquely Australian home design as individual as you are, you need to break the rules. “Imagination has rules, but we can only guess what they are.” PROJECT: WATTLE STREET BUILDING DESIGN: KIDD + CO www.kiddco.com.au COMMERCIAL Good commercial building design enables us to live and work more efficiently, comfortably, profitably, securely and enjoyably in a more aesthetic and productive environment. A Ritek® roof provides high level thermal comfort for a building’s occupants and reduces the need for air-conditioning or heating requirements and therefore the size of a building’s carbon foot print. Improved thermal performance supports staff comfort and can potentially increase productivity in commercial premises. Our roofing systems are not only functional, they provide designers with flexibility through our high yield strength roof systems and can be fully customised to meet your commercial needs. A Ritek® roof is cyclone tested, has a Group 1 fire rating, is fully warranted for up to 25 years and BCA Part J compliant. For a commercial building that is not limited by conventional roof building constraints, make your commercial buildng a signature of your business image with a Ritek® roof. “Rules and models destroy genius and art.” ROWAN TURNER PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT: BERRY HALL ARCHITECT: ALLEN JACK + COTTIER www.architectsajc.com INFRASTRUCTURE, COMMUNITY AND EDUCATION Modern public buildings such as education and community spaces often reflect both the physical and social needs of a community, utilise innovation and evoke visual emotion. They help us define our identity and are often a work of art within a landscape with most innovative architecture currently being large Australian infrastructure projects. Conventional roofing methods limit designers who want to create a contemporary community space. A Ritek® roof can provide wide open spaces, by removing some of the unsightly and costly obstructions such as supports, is low in maintenance and provides high thermal comfort to the building’s occupants, reducing the size of a building’s carbon footprint. For a truly unique public space the Ritek® roof can be customised to your needs and is available in straight, curved or multi-curved configurations, providing a uniquely Australian contemporary aesthetic that seamlessly merges the interior of the building to the exterior. BETTER BUILDINGS = BRIGHTER FUTURE The time to build better classrooms for future generations is NOW! Most students spend their days in schools that are often unhealthy, restricting their ability to learn. Sustainable school building design provides an astonishingly cost-effective way to enhance student learning, reduce health issues and operational costs while increasing school quality and competitiveness. By incorporating sustainable materials such as a Ritek® roof for the broader community’s 21st century building needs, you can achieve rapid construction of your project, significant financial savings and contribute positively to the environmental impact of a building now and into the future. “The Ritek® Custom Roof Panel’s sleek lines are attractive and the installation process was smooth as the panels are prefabricated. We were afforded significant savings due to the speed and ease of installation.” “The brilliant cantilever and spanning features of the roof panels are a designer’s dream as they provide the ability to use both curved and straight configurations. We are very happy with the overall result the roof provides, which is a contemporary finish that complements the eco-efficiency and overall aesthetics of the building.” Award winning designer John Whittingham, Director - Allen Jack+Cottier, Sydney Project: Berry Recreation Hall for the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY Ritek® Building Solutions was initially borne from the need to preserve our precious natural resources. Long before sustainability had become 'popular', our mission statement was to encourage sustainability and efficiency in the building industry. Ritek® has dedicated over 25 years to changing market perceptions and has made significant contributions to encouraging sustainable building practices. Energy Conservation Increase the efficiency of a building and utilise Ritek’s unvrivalled cantilever capability. Provide protection from glare allowing increased window openings, enhancing natural light. Ritek® insulated roof panels can further reduce energy needs and impact on emissions, are fibre free and help maintain temperatures for a higher level of thermal comfort. Further savings in project and energy costs are achieved by the elimination of material and trade labour costs for paint and eave linings. Materials Efficiency & Waste Reduction Ritek’s roof panels are prefabricated so they are quick and easy to install, reduce construction waste going back into landfill and allow for a safer and cleaner worksite. Ritek® roof system’s superior spanning and cantilever capability reduces the need for expensive and obtrusive support structures such as roof trusses and beams. Our roof panel can be disassembled and used in another building making it 100% recyclable in its entire form. Indoor Environmental Quality Make the most of local climatic conditions, capture cool breezes and improve interior space ventilation with a Ritek® roof. The prefinished ceiling lining of COLORBOND® sheeting means the insulation is completely contained, clean and non-allergenic as there are no volatile organic compounds (VOC) or Formaldehyde content on the finished product. Durability Our roof systems high yield strength and durability are low maintenance aside from the occasional wash down of soffits (can also be easily repaired with paint). Each roof panel is COLORBOND® coated and proven in use, cyclone tested and achieves a Group 1 fire rating. Ritek® Roof Systems have been certified with Group 1 fire rating in accordance with the BCA2006 Specification C1.10a, which is the highest rating under the Building Council of Australia. It has a Smoke Growth Rate Index (SMOGRRC) <100. The Ritek® Lifesaver panel is suitable for use in harsh marine and corrosive environments. Sustainable Projects The Ecovillage at Currumbin, was awarded the world’s finest example of sustainable urban development and best residential subdivision. It also won the HIA Greensmart Building of the year award using Ritek’s Custom Roof Panel in their “Living Laboratory”. The roof was concave and was used to harvest rainwater and to provide thermal comfort to the building’s occupants. About EPS From a global warming perspective, it has been estimated that the effective application of EPS can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 50% when used in insulation application (PACIA, n.d.). Furthermore, the insulation performance of EPS does not deteriorate during its lifetime therefore the reduction in emissions lasts the full lifetime of a building. From a landfill perspective, EPS remains inert, non-biodegradable and non-toxic. NB: On an average, for every kg of oil used in panel manufacture, about 200kg will be saved in reduced heating demand over the lifespan of the panel.
