Metropolitans. We pride ourselves on being able to offer you a complete selection of the finest quality parts to replace any of the 14,726 parts that Metropolitans are made of. Considerable research and expense has gone into retooling and remanufacturing many Metropolitan parts to their original specifications. Whenever possible, we’ve made improvements over the original parts by using thicker gauge metal, better plating and updated rubber and plastic formulations. Be confident our parts put inside/outside/underneath a Met will fit
+ look + work right and are safe and reliable. With your continued support and input, we intend to fulfill your every Metropolitan need.
Parts listed in this catalog are new unless otherwise indicated. Rebuilt parts are sold “exchange”. Part(s) to be exchanged must be received with your order or a core charge will be added to the price of the part(s).
The core charge will only be refunded if core received is the same type as the core sold, is rebuildable, has no missing pieces and has not been taken apart. We recommend you pack the core in a sturdy box, tape securely, ship it insured and obtain a tracking number. Copy of invoice must be enclosed with core for refund of core charge.
Used parts are sold “as is” and are in good usable condition. No two matching items are in the same cosmetic condition. If appearance is of major concern, ask for “select used” and we will quote the price.
All our parts are inspected and tested by our shop’s technicians.
We also have N.O.S. (new old stock) parts for those serious competitors looking to restore a Metropolitan to original condition. N.O.S. prices are considerably higher than the prices listed in our catalog. Call to inquire.
All of our new and rebuilt parts are guaranteed against defects in material and workmanship for a period of
60 days from date of purchase. This warranty covers only the part and does not include labor or failure of a related component. In no case would liability of Metropolitan Pit Stop, Inc. exceed the invoiced price for the guaranteed part. We make no other warranty, expressed or implied.

C American Motors plant employees badge. These rare badges came from the AMC plant. Most Metropolitans passed through the AMC plant for inspections, fine-tuning and for factory installed accessories. Each badge is unique, with an AMC employee number printed in the center. The color designates the section of the factory the employee was authorized to work in. Wear a historical badge and share the story when driving or showing your Met. You can even insert a photo of your Met in the window.

There are any number of things that a person should try to do in their lifetime. All U.S. citizens should get to Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty. World travelers should see the Pyramids and the Eiffel Tower.
Metropolitan owners owe it to themselves to visit the Metropolitan Museum at Met Pit Stop. That’s all there is to it!
You look up & know you’ve landed in the right spot–there is the back end of a Metropolitan blasting out of the upper wall of the building, breaking right thru the plaster! The front windows are painted to look like marble.

The museum is a masterpiece of space utilization, fantasy & Trompe-L’oeil–the art of transforming flat walls into seemingly realistic spaces, complete with depth, shading & perspective. Each of the room’s four walls has a theme tied to the Mets nearby. Opposite the entrance is the (real) parts department & gift shop–set up to look like 50’s stores with awnings & clever signs. In front of them sit two unique (incredibly restored!)
Mets: the prototype Metropolitan Station Wagon and the 1955 “concept” Metropolitan (code named “Astra-
Gnome”): what Mets of the future were envisioned to look like.
The right wall has a diorama which includes a castle on a hill, a lonesome desert road and a “Metro” gas station complete with a Met police car. In front of each of these 3 melded scenes is an appropriate
Metropolitan: the castle a backdrop for a (thoroughly restored) British right-hand drive convertible (License reads LO•NE14T– figure it out?); the desert image shows off the “Westerner”–the ‘Palomino Biege
Pearlescent’–painted Met displayed at all Western U.S.A auto shows in 1961-62. It has hand tooled medallions on its ‘tuck & roll’ leather seats & interior door panels; special emblems on fenders including ‘Rodeo Gal on
Cow Pony’–inspired by famous Ned Jordan painting “Somewhere West of Laramie”; vented full wheel covers with 2-color ‘M’ medallions. In front of it sits an adobe red (all-original) 1953 “NKI Custom” (code name for early production yet un-named Metropolitans). At desert’s edge is the ‘Metro’ Gas Station.
The front wall is painted to represent the Valentine Volunteer Fire Dept. building, with one door closed & another open with the Chief’s (full size) Met ready to roll. (Remember this is all done on a flat wall!) Before this masterpiece is another masterpiece–the redder than red Metropolitan hook & ladder fire engine, built in 1957 for Catskill Game Farm.
The left wall is the “Dealership” showroom mural-more than 10 feet high & 27 feet across with five
Mets on display–which move as you walk along! You have to see it to believe it! Before this mural: a 1957 customized “Hudson” Met (owned by former Met National Sales Mgr.) & a 100% original near-final production
1961 AMC Met. Wrapping around the front wall from the “Dealership” is a phone booth with Superman changing into his crime fighting suit, and a look into a 50’s Eve’s Diner where Humphrey Bogart, Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe are sharing a snack at the counter while Elvis Presley & a young starlet have coffee in a private booth.
If you are ever in the Los Angeles area, plan ahead & make sure you see the Metropolitan Museum.
I was lucky enough to have a private tour meeting with Jimmy & Eve Valentine, the creative force behind the museum and most fascinating people. Now I want to take other Met owners on a trek to the grandest shrine to our funky cute little cars. The Pyramids & Mount Rushmore can wait!
