THE FOLLOWING CHECKLIST IS INTENDED TO ASSIST YOU IN THE PREPARATION OF YOUR FIRE ALARM DRAWINGS. THIS CHECK SHEET IDENTIFIES THE
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR THE INITIAL FIRE ALARM PLAN REVIEW. THIS CHECK LIST IN NO WAY DETAILS ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS THAT MAY BE
NECESSARY FOR A COMPLETE CODE COMPLIANT SYSTEM. PLEASE COMPLETE AND CHECK OFF EACH ITEM AND INCLUDE IT WITH YOUR PERMIT
APPLICATION FOR REVIEW. PARTIAL APPLICATIONS WILL BE RETURNED AND SUBJECT TO A $50.00 PLAN REVIEW FEE.

SHOP DRAWING SHALL SHOW YOUR SCOPE OF WORK ONLY
- ALL UNRELATED WORK SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE DRAWINGS”

IF THE JOB VALUE EXCEEDS $5,000.00 FIRE ALARM DRAWINGS SHALL BE SIGNED AND SEALED BY A FLORIDA REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL
ENGINEER IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FBC 5TH ED -105.3.1.2. SHOP DRAWINGS THAT ARE NOT SIGNED AND SEALED SHALL BE REVIEWED BY THE
ENGINEER OF RECORD FOR COMPLIANCE. IN ADDITION, ONE SIGNED AND SEALED SET SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE ENGINEER OF RECORD, AND
SHALL BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR SHOP DRAWINGS FOR PERMITTING.

FIRE ALARM REPLACEMENT SHALL INCLUDE COVER LETTER WITH SCOPE OF WORK, BATTERY CALCULATIONS, CUT-SHEETS.

IDENTIFY THE COMMUNICATION METHOD ON THE DRAWINGS.

FACP PANEL LOCATED OUTSIDE IN NEMA RATED ENCLOSURE SHALL MEET THE VOLTAGE, TEMPERATURE, AND HUMIDITY VARIATION OF NFPA
72. EQUIPMENT SHALL BE DESIGNED SO THAT IT IS CAPABLE OF PERFORMING ITS INTENDED FUNCTIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72.
PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION ON ENCLOSURE, FAN AND TEMPERATURE CONTROL.

MULTI-TENANT & BUILDING OCCUPANCIES SHALL REPORT TO CENTRAL STATION BY DEVICE / UNIT # - ALL OTHERS CONTACT ID (CID).

A MINIMUM OF (3) SETS OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING SHALL BE PROVIDED PER FLORIDA BUILDING CODE & FIRE PREVENTION CODE, NFPA 72:
a. FA DRAWINGS - MAXIMUM SHEET SIZE SHALL BE 30” X 42” WITH A LEGIBLE FONT SIZE.
b. FIRE ALARM LEGEND, SCOPE OF WORK, OPERATIONAL MATRIX.
c. FACP/PSE BATTERY LOAD CALCULATIONS AND VOLTAGE DROP CALCULATIONS FOR SLC AND NOTIFICATION CIRCUITS.
d. CUT SHEETS WITH EACH ITEM HIGHLIGHTED FOR VERIFICATION AND REVIEW.

THE PLAN SET SHALL INCLUDE THE PROJECT NAME, ADDRESS, CITY, STATE, AND ZIP CODE PER NFPA 72.

THE PLAN SET SHALL INCLUDE THE CONTRACTORS NAME, ADDRESS, CITY, STATE, ZIP CODE AND LICENSE NUMBER.

THE PLAN SET SHALL INDICATE THE BUILDING ORIENTATION, NORTH, EAST, ETC…NFPA 72. LARGER BUILDINGS SHALL INCLUDE A KEY PLAN.

THE PLANS SET SHALL CLEARLY IDENTIFY THE LOCATION OF THE FACP, POWER EXPANDERS, DIGITAL COMMUNICATORS AND REMOTE
ANNUNCIATOR.

ALL ROOMS SHALL BE CLEARLY IDENTIFIED ON THE FLOOR PLAN INDICATING THE ROOM USE PER FLORIDA BUILDING CODE CHAPTER 9 SECTION
907.1.1 CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS.

IDENTIFY ALL SPRINKLER WATER FLOW & TAMPER SWITCHES ON DRAWINGS.

TRANSIENT PROTECTION: TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGE BY INDUCED TRANSIENTS, CIRCUITS AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BE PROTECTED
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENT OF NFPA 70, NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, ARTICLE 800. TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF INDUCED
SURGES SECONDARY SURGE PROTECTION SHALL BE INSTALLED ON ALL NEW SYSTEM AND PANEL CHANGE OUTS AND SHALL BE INSTALLED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURERS’ INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND IDENTIFIED ON THE PLAN SET PER NFPA 72.

ALL WIRING ENTERING AND LEAVING THE BUILDING SHALL BE PROTECTED WITH SURGE PROTECTION INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH
MANUFACTURERS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND IDENTIFIED ON THE PLAN SET.

THE MINIMUM WIRE SIZE, CLASS, PATHWAY SURVIVABILITY LEVEL SHALL BE IDENTIFIED ON THE PLAN SET FOR EACH SLC, ZONE, NAC, CIRCUIT
WIRING PER NFPA 72, FFPC AND FBC CHAPTER 9 SECTION 907.1.1 CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS.

THE NOTIFICATIONS DEVICE LOCATION AND THE CANDELA RATING SHALL BE CLEARLY IDENTIFIED NEXT TO EACH NOTIFICATION DEVICE.
UNLESS ALL THE NOTIFICATIONS DEVICES ARE OF THE SAME CANDELA “INDICATE SUCH BY PLAN NOTE” PER NFPA 72.

A MINIMUM OF ONE WEATHERPROOF NOTIFICATION DEVICE SHALL BE PROVIDED AND LOCATED TOWARDS THE MAIN ENTRY TO THE BUILDING
FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT NOTIFICATION. COORDINATE LOCATION WITH FIRE INSPECTOR.

ANY DEVICE USED OUTDOORS SHALL BE IDENTIFIED WITH “WP” DESIGNATION.

DUCT SMOKE DETECTORS SHALL BE PROGRAMMED TO INITIATE A SUPERVISORY SIGNAL AND SHUT DOWN THE ASSOCIATED UNIT. UNLESS,
ANOTHER MODE OF ACTION IS REQUIRED BY THE FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEER.

A KNOX BOX SHALL BE REQUIRED FOR ALL BUILDINGS WHERE THE MAIN FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL IS LOCATED INSIDE THE BUILDING OR IN
A ROOM.
NOTE:
NFPA 72 - 18.4.5.3* EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2014, WHERE AUDIBLE APPLIANCES ARE PROVIDED TO PRODUCE SIGNALS FOR SLEEPING AREAS,
THEY SHALL PRODUCE A LOW FREQUENCY ALARM SIGNAL THAT COMPLIES WITH NFPA 72.
