Position Description: 10th Grade and IBDP Physics Teacher School Introduction In September 2014, Shanghai Qibao High School and the Dwight School launched Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, the first non-profit, independent, Chinese-foreign collaborative high school approved by Shanghai Education Committee as a qualified legal organization. Chinese and international students have the opportunity to attend this three-year, full-time boarding school in Shanghai for grades 10, 11, and 12. Shanghai Qibao High School and the Dwight School share long histories as educational leaders and have received numerous awards in recognition of their innovative and successful networks of schools. Shanghai Qibao was founded in 1947, became a key high school in 1961, and has operated a network of fourteen schools since 2005. The Dwight School originated in 1872, has been an authorized IB World School since 1975, and currently has international schools located in New York, London, Vancouver, and Seoul. The Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School curriculum integrates an international perspective with four pillars of Chinese compulsory education, Chinese Language, History, Geography and Politics. Students will have the option to participate in the Shanghai academic proficiency exams. As is the case with all global Dwight Schools, the school is currently a candidate to implement the IBDP curriculum. Graduating students are eligible to receive a Dwight School diploma, a Shanghai Qibao High School joint diploma and an IB diploma (pending authorization by the IBO). The school currently has 157 students enrolled in 10th grade and will admit another 150 students for the 2015-16 academic year. In future years when the school is at full capacity, Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School intends to enroll approximately 1,000 students across all three grade levels. The faculty and administration includes highly qualified Chinese and international teachers. The school benefits extensively from the resources and expertise of both partners. The school campus is situated in Qibao Town, Minhang District, Shanghai. Teachers and students have access to a teaching building with subject classrooms, science laboratories and arts facilities, an administrative building, an auditorium, a library, multimedia facilities, an indoor gymnasium, an outdoor sports facility, student dormitories and a dining hall. Skills and Requirements Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School is hiring an experienced physics teacher to join their team based in Shanghai. This is a permanent, full-time position available starting August 2015. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a new school pioneering a Sino-foreign joint high school model with highly qualified western-trained expatriate and local teachers. I. Scope and Purpose of the Job: Physics teachers are responsible for developing curriculum and teaching classes for the school physics program. Position objectives include: 1) Designing and implementing subject matter curriculum in line with preparation for the IBDP and for IBDP year 1 and 2. 2) Fostering a dynamic and interactive learning environment that encourages student participation and facilitates mastery of subject material. 3) Maintaining a record system to track student progress 4) Building strong lines of communication with school staff and parents to support student learning 5) Contribute to the development of the Qibao Dwight school culture and support school mission. II. Position Characteristics: Salary: School’s own salary schedule, commensurate with experience and qualifications Length of Contract: 203 days over 12 months (based on school calendar) Location: Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, Shanghai, China Contract Start Date: August 1, 2015 Arrive at School: August 10, 2015 School Hours: 7:20-4:30, unless noted for special circumstances such as evening study hall. Classes end at 3:10. 3:10-4:30 is planned for activities. Teaching load: 20 hours/week. III. Type of coordination: Program Development to meet the curricular needs of the school with particular focus on pre-IBDP, IBDP and Chinese national integration and faculty development. IV.
