1. Grants are available to registered Waikato-Tainui tribal members who reside in New Zealand for initiatives
or activities related to Maatauranga, which may include:
• Promotion, preservation, advancement and maintaining of MAATAURANGA MAAORI i.e. participation/
representation at kaupapa Maaori events.
• Promotion, preservation, advancement and maintaining of TE REO MAAORI i.e. participation at National
Kapa Haka competitions/events and/or participation at Manu Korero competitions and other similar
events.
• Promotion, preservation, advancement and maintaining of the traditional culture of Waikato-Tainui
through TRIBAL WAANANGA.
2. The proposed initiative and activity must benefit members of one or more Waikato-Tainui Te Kauhanganui
Marae. Priority will be given to initiatives and activities which are being held within the Waikato-Tainui
rohe and/or have a Waikato-Tainui focus/kaupapa. Applicants should refer to Whakatupuranga 2050 for
Waikato-Tainui tribal priorities.
3. Any grant awarded must be expended within New Zealand (grants for travel/events/initiatives taking place
overseas are not available).
4. Other examples the Maatauranga Grant does not cover include the purchase of fixed assets, wages,
salaries, whaanau reunions, tangihanga and business ventures.
5. Grants will not be considered in retrospect.
6. An application form must be completed for the grant to be considered. Only one grant will be considered
per Marae/Trust/Organisation in a 12 month period. (Note in the case of a Marae, this excludes the annual
Marae Dividend).
7. Grant applications will be considered monthly and applications close on the last working day of the month.
8. Where an application is made on behalf of a group/trust/organisation, at least 50% of the persons
benefiting from the grant must be registered Waikato-Tainui tribal members to enable the grant to be
considered. A list of full names and dates of birth of all persons benefiting from the grant must be supplied
in support of the application (to verify tribal registration).
9. Full details of the initiative/activity, expected outcomes, dates, venue, who will benefit and a full budget
must be supplied in support of the application.
10.Sole discretion to accept or decline a grant that does not meet the criteria rests with the Waikato Raupatu
Lands Trust.
11.Grants will be paid into the Marae/Trust/Organisation bank account - not into an individual’s account.
12.Pursuant to the Privacy Act 1993, signing and submitting the application authorises the Waikato Raupatu
Lands Trust to record, hold and publish names of each grant recipient. Grant details may also be used for
publicity and promotion purposes and successful applicants may be contacted for evaluation and review
purposes.
13.Successful applicants are asked to acknowledge the Waikato Raupatu Lands Trust as a sponsor.
14.Successful applicants must complete an accountability statement to verify the funding was expended for
the purpose in which it was awarded. Failure to do so may result in future applications being declined.

Approved:
You will be notified in writing within two months of when your application was received. Monies will be paid into your nominated bank account by direct credit, on or around
the 20th of the month following approval.
Declined:
You will be notified in writing within two months of when your application was received, with
reasons why your application has been declined.
