Attached you will find the individual scout interest page and the registration spreadsheet for the
2015 Clinton Power Station Merit Badge Fair, to be held on August 8th, 2015. Registrations will
open March 15, and will close on July 15 – NO EXCEPTIONS --PLEASE DO NOT ASK.
There is a non-refundable fee of $10.00 per Scout. There will be NO charge for Scouters and
parents. This fee must be paid in full within 7 days of the confirmation of registration, or your
reservation will be cancelled and the spots opened up to the next Scout or Troop on the waiting
list. Please assign one adult member of your Troop to be my contact person. The quickest way
to get registered is to have the scouts fill out their individual preferences and turn them into the
contact person. The contact person will then compile the Scouts’ preferences into the attached
spreadsheet. Then e-mail the spreadsheet to clintontroop142@gmail.com. Once I email the
confirmation of the classes, the contact should send one check per Troop to: (make payable to
Clinton Troop 142)

All single registrations will be processed after groups have been scheduled (unless your single
scout is the only attendee from that troop). Please make checks out to Clinton Troop 142. We
are once again offering free camping onsite, as long as our eaglets are fledged.
Please read this letter CAREFULLY, and advise your Scouts to request 5 choices that are
appropriate for them. Have them make sure that they haven’t chosen a class that they have
already earned the badge for.


No Scout will be scheduled in more than one Eagle required class -- no exceptions.
To take Electronics, Scouts must have completed Algebra I.
Several classes are ALL DAY classes. Several classes are VERY limited in size, so please list
the Scouts on your excel spreadsheet in the order that they registered with you, rather than
alphabetical, so that I can register accordingly. No Blue Cards will be signed off unless the
Scouts read the MB Book, complete the prep work, and are able to complete the other
requirements to the satisfaction of the Counselor. If prep is incomplete, the Scout will get a
“partial”. Scouts must arrive at their class with a SIGNED BLUE CARD AND MERIT BADGE
BOOK. SCOUTS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO USE THE WORKSHEETS
AVAILABLE ON MERITBADGE.ORG TO COMPLETE THEIR MERIT BADGE WORK.
This will speed the one-on-one counseling sessions, and show the Counselor quickly that the
Scouts have completed the work.
I am also asking for the help of leaders and parents who are otherwise unoccupied to assist with
preparing lunch (Final menu yet to be determined). There will be no peanuts or peanut butter,
because of allergies; we are not able to accommodate vegetarian diets. Please feel free to bring
your own sack lunch, if you prefer.
Volunteers NEEDED for Swimming Merit Badge for Safe Swim Defense and drivers to get
scouts to areas for Merit Badges. I'd also like to ask for some parents/leaders to sit in on classes
and be our second adults, as required by Youth Protection Policy, and to keep an eye out for bad
behavior. In previous years, we have had employee desks that had been rifled through and at
least one set of keys stolen. We all know that this is unscoutlike behavior, and if it happens, may
require the involvement of on-site Security.
Please let me know in advance if you have any special needs for any scouts or adults. We will
do our utmost to accommodate you. All buildings are handicapped accessible.
Once all registrations are completed, I will send maps and directions to the one person who is my
contact; they are responsible for passing them on to the masses. If the official contact person
will reply to this, including your name, address, Troop # and Council name, I will formulate a
2015 contact list. If you are not the "official" contact, but would like to be included in the
multitude of e-mails that I send out, let me know, and I'll add you to the list as well. 2-deep
leadership is required from all troops attending the fair; the only exception would be a parent or
scouter bringing their own scout and no others.
Any questions???? NO??? Please feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone so that I can make
this a simple process for us all. Please do not delay -- register your Scouts and make your
reservation payment quickly to secure the classes your Scouts want. Some updates will be
available on our website Clintontroop142.com.
In the past years approximately 2,500 Merit Badges have been earned by scouts coming through
this program – That’s something that we are VERY proud of!! Please feel free to voice your
thanks to Jim Mosely, who has taken charge of this merit badge fair again this year. He’s a great
leader and a great friend to work with.
Yours in Scouting,
Donald Husted
