Unitec also offers an English Language programme which can be used to meet the requirements. The minimum general admission criteria for each level of study are outlined below. There may also be interview, portfolio, work experience or other requirements that need to be provided. Graduate diplomas, postgraduate and masters qualifications Up-to-date CV The CV is a summary of a student’s past study, work history (paid and voluntary), experiences, interests, hobbies etc. Graduate diplomas, postgraduate and masters qualifications Relevant work-related reference letters These are reference letters from an employer describing a student’s work background in a company/workplace, the nature of the work, and how the student performed as an employee – not letters of employment or employment contracts. Graduate diplomas, postgraduate and masters qualifications Statement of purpose (SOP) The SOP is a summary of your future plans, career goals/desires, interests for study etc. The purpose of an SOP is to help us check what you want to learn and whether the programme provides this, whether the programme will prepare you for the type of career you’re looking for, and which elective courses would be most suitable so that you take the topics of interest to you. Therefore an SOP should: >B e 1-2 pages (short and detailed is better than long and vague) > I ntroduce you and why you want to apply for the programme >T ell us about your specific interests in the field you’ve chosen >G ive us some idea of your career goals and plans for the future >T ell us what you want to learn or hope to get out of the programme to prepare you for those plans. An SOP should NOT: > I nclude a copy of the CV/work or study history in detail >R ely on vague, obvious plans such as “I want to improve my skills in computing” >B e a copy or summary of promotional material from Unitec about our services/facilities/ courses or about NZ as a study destination. Programme-specific information Graduate Diploma of Business and Graduate Diploma in Computing Students can apply directly for these programmes after completing a bachelors degree and no work experience is required. Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Master of Business Students must have relevant middle management or supervisory work experience. Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Master of Education Does not lead to registration as a teacher. If you want to apply for cross-credits, you need to: » Obtain detailed course descriptions (in English) from the previous institution you studied at » Complete the Application for Credit Recognition/Cross-credits (online or in the International Prospectus) »Please apply for credits at least two months before the semester begins; do not leave it too late as the process can take 2-3 months, and credits approved more than two weeks after the semester begins will not affect your enrolment (ie you will not be able to withdraw from the courses or apply for a refund due to the credits).
