FCC ANNOUNCES SECTION 106 SUMMIT IN ASSOCIATION WITH NATHPO CONFERENCE IN
IGNACIO, COLORADO, SEPTEMBER 1-2, 2016
FCC to Meet with Tribal Historic Preservation Officers and Cultural Resource Leaders
PRE-REGISTER NOW (COMPLIMENTARY SUMMIT REGISTRATION FOR TRIBAL NATIONS)
Section 106 Summit
The FCC’s Competition and Infrastructure Policy Division, Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, and the
FCC’s Office of Native Affairs and Policy, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, together with the
National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (NATHPO), extend an invitation to Tribal
Historic Preservation Officers and Cultural Resource staff to join us in a dialogue addressing issues
associated with the deployment of wireless technologies and compliance with the FCC’s Section 106
process. Our goal is to build on the conversation we had at last year’s NATHPO conference and at other
workshops and meetings over the past year. Summit participants will review the FCC’s Section 106
process, to discuss how it is working and to identify what we can work on together to improve.
Discussion will include, but is not limited to, developing a process to address non-compliant towers, as
well as ways the review process might evolve to operate more effectively under current conditions.
Schedule and Accommodations
The Summit will be held at the Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s “Sky Ute Casino Resort” on September 1st
and 2nd, immediately following NATHPO’s 18th annual conference. The Summit will consist of a full day
session on Thursday, September 1st and a half day session on Friday, September 2nd. You do not need to
attend the NATHPO conference to register for the Summit. Participation is limited to representatives of
Tribal Nations. Please check the NATHPO website for information on the availability of hotel rooms at
the Sky Ute Casino Resort Hotel offered at a special conference rate (www.nathpo.org). The next closest
lodging may be found in Durango, Colorado, approximately 24 miles from the Sky Ute Casino Hotel.
Who should attend the Summit?
Tribal Historic Preservation Officers, Tribal Government Officials, Tribal Cultural Resource Leaders and
their staff. Note that you do not need to be a NATHPO member to register and attend the NATHPO
conference. Registration for the FCC Section 106 Summit, however, is separate and limited to
representatives of Tribal Nations. There is no fee to attend the Summit.
Agenda and Preparatory Call
The FCC invites Tribal Nations to participate in developing discussion topics and the agenda. To that
end, we have scheduled a conference call for Wednesday, July 13, at 2:30 p.m. EDT. We will circulate
call-in information and a draft agenda prior to the call. We also welcome you to contact us at any time
with your ideas.
Pre-Registration
Please pre-register for the FCC Section 106 Summit by sending an e-mail to Maira Delao of the FCC at
Maira.Delao@fcc.gov. Please provide your name and title, the name of your Tribal Nation, and a phone
number and e-mail address where you may be reached. Questions and ideas for discussion topics
