Summary
A.
Install cast-in-place concrete stairs at the locations shown on the drawings
or as directed by the Department, as specified herein.
B.
Work covered under this section generally conforms to PennDOT 408/11,
Sections 704 and 1001.
Submittals
A.
All concrete shall be obtained from a PennDOT approved source. The
concrete mix design shall be the responsibility of the Contractor and
supplier. Submit the mix design for each class of concrete to the
Department for review prior to placing concrete.
B.
Mold, cure, and test concrete cylinders in accordance with methods
specified in PTM - PennDOT Publication 19 and PennDOT 408/11.
C.
Steel certification and shop drawings for the deformed reinforcement bars.
D.
Provide product information, shop drawings, catalog data, and/or
certifications for: Aggregates, anchor bolts, waterproofing materials, all
types of protective coatings, forms, curing material, and compounds.
Codes and Regulations
A.
Except as herein specified, work pertaining to measuring, mixing, placing
and testing of concrete construction of formwork and detailing, fabricating,
and placing of reinforcing and accessories shall be governed by the
following codes and regulations:

Cement Concrete
A.
Cement Concrete shall be in accordance with PennDOT 408/11, Section
704. The Class of Concrete shall be AA with a minimum compressive
strength of 3000 psi at 7 days and 3750 psi at 28 days.
B.
Concrete supplier shall follow PennDOT’s policy regarding mix designs
using potentially reactive aggregate. Copies can be obtained from the
Department if necessary.
Reinforcement Bars
A.
Reinforcement shall be in accordance with PennDOT 408/11, Section 1002.
B.
Obtain reinforcing steel from a manufacture listed in PennDOT Bulletin 15.
Certify as required by PennDOT 408/11. Only steel made in U.S.A. and
grade 60 steel will be allowed.

Curing Material and Compounds

Meeting the requirements of PennDOT Specifications 408/11, Section
1001.2(h).
Meeting the requirements of PennDOT Specifications 408/11, Section
1001.2(b).
Joint Materials
All joint materials shall be from a manufacturer listed on PennDOT Bulletin 15.

Joint Sealing Material - shall meet the requirements of PennDOT 408/2011,
Section 705.4.

Joint Backing Material - shall meet the requirements of PennDOT
408/2011, Section 705.9.

Caulking Compound - shall meet the requirements of PennDOT 408/2011,
Section 705.8.

Premolded Expansion Joint Filler - Shall be of the size shown on the
drawings and shall conform with the requirements of PennDOT 408/2011,
Section 705.1.

concrete.

Measurement and Payment
A.
Payment for work contained in this section shall be Lump Sum “Concrete
Stair Installation.” No separate payment will be made for any labor,
materials, or equipment required to complete the work contained in this
section.
