HISTORY City Performance Hall will open in 2012 in the Downtown Dallas Arts District. The Arts District contains several world-renowned facilities including the Dallas Museum of Art, Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, and Nasher Sculpture Center. CPH Tech Specs (Rev. F - DRAFT) Page 4 of 22 Updated: 5/26/12 THEATRE The main feature of City Performance Hall is its 748 seat proscenium theatre. It is designed with a floating balcony, adjustable proscenium arch, LED curtain, and a system of variable acoustical curtains. The theatre meets NC-15 standards, providing a superior aural experience for audience members and performers alike. Seating 550 seats - orchestra level 198 seats - balcony 748 total seats Wheelchair seating is available throughout the auditorium. Certain aisle seats have movable armrests to accommodate patrons with limited mobility. Proscenium Width: adjustable from 38’-0” to 56’-8” with the use of movable hard panels Height: 30’-0” – soft borders are available to reduce the height of the opening Proscenium panels are designed to blend with the architecture of the auditorium, giving the appearance of a fixed opening. Stage House Width (wall to wall): 107’-0” Depth (plasterline to upstage wall): 40’-0” Grid height: 64’-6” Note: downstage left area is reserved for storage of orchestra shell when not in use (see Appendix A – Theatre Groundplan) Note: the flyrail is located stage right, and must remain clear of obstacles at all times. Stage Floor The stage floor is constructed of plywood subfloor over cushion sleepers, covered with flat black tempered hardboard (masonite). The floor may not be nailed into or painted. Approved tape (spike, gaff, glow) may be used, but must be removed at the end of each event. There are safety LEDs built into the downstage edge of the stage. These lights cannot be seen from the house, and are controlled independently from all other lighting systems. The LED on center is a different color. CPH Tech Specs (Rev. F - DRAFT) Page 5 of 22 Updated: 5/26/12 Apron / Orchestra Pit The hydraulic pit lift allows the downstage section of the stage (roughly 40’-0” wide by 9’-0” deep) to used as an apron or an orchestra pit. The pit can accommodate between 20 and 30 musicians. When the pit is lowered, musician access is from the lower level. The pit has microphone inputs, dimmers, ClearCom and cue light connections. There is an acoustic curtain in the pit that may be manually extended if desired. LED curtain / Architectural lighting In lieu of a traditional grand drape, City Performance Hall has a unique LED curtain used in conjunction with a black traveler. The LED curtain is 60’-0” wide by 32’-0” tall and consists of a grid of color-mixing LED nodes every 8”. The image(s) displayed on the curtain have been commissioned by the Public Art program, and are considered part of the architecture of the facility. In addition to the LED curtain, there are LEDs throughout the house that splash light on the walls and ceiling. These two components work together to create a distinct atmosphere into which audience members enter before performances. Acoustical Shell & Canopies The orchestra shell may be used by groups who wish to enhance the acoustics for both the audience and the performers. The white oak paneled enclosure is made up of 10 towers – 4 upstage and 3 on each side – and 3 ceiling sections. A smaller enclosure may be created by only using 2 towers on each side and 2 ceiling sections. The stage area within the orchestra enclosure is 53’-8” wide downstage and 47’-6” wide upstage. With the apron in place, it is 43’-0” from the edge of the stage to the back wall of the enclosure. The ceiling tapers from a downstage height of 30’-0” to an upstage height of 25’-0”. There are 3 entrance doors built into each side of the enclosure. When in use, the acoustical shell ceiling prevents the use of all overhead linesets, including all electrics and the LED curtain. When not in use, the towers store offstage left, and the ceiling pieces store vertically in the fly house. CPH Tech Specs (Rev. F - DRAFT) Page 6 of 22 Updated: 5/26/12 Acoustical Curtains The side and rear walls of the auditorium are lined with (13) motorized acoustic curtains which may be lowered or raised to alter the reverberation of the room as desired. There are several settings, each catered to the needs of different types of performances. Rigging There are 33 manual single purchase linesets (14 of these are occupied by standard house soft goods). Manual linesets can be operated from stage level or from the mid-rail. All linesets are 75’-0” wide single pipes. Weight limit is 1750# per lineset. The 4 dedicated electrics are on motorized linesets. Weight limit is 2500# per electric. There are 3 motorized linesets dedicated for the orchestra enclosure ceiling. There is a gallery on each side of the stage (the stage right gallery also functions as the mid-rail) 34’-0” above the deck. Each gallery has a pin-rail for spot line rigging. See Appendix D – Rep Lineset Schedule, for more information. There are 7 (1 permanently mounted, 6 movable) 1-ton chain motors on the gridiron. The following may be available if requested in advance: pipe clamps, sand bags, spansets, box truss. CPH Tech Specs (Rev. F - DRAFT) Page 7 of 22 Updated: 5/26/12 Fire Curtain There is a motorized fire curtain just upstage of the proscenium opening. It may be triggered manually from a panel on either side of the proscenium, or triggered by the melting of fusible links throughout the system. The fire curtain cannot be seen from any seat in the house, and may not be altered or interfered with in any way. There must be a clear path underneath the fire curtain at all times. If scenery is required to be under the path of the fire curtain, breakaway sections or other provisions must be discussed with venue staff in advance.
