FTC - Fiber Systems Technology Center Ravensburg, Germany Voith Paper FTC - Fiber Systems Technology Center Ravensburg Voith Paper Ravensburg continually advances the state of the papermaking art with processes and systems customized for specific applications. In this context, the Fiber Systems Technology Center (FTC) carries out stock-preparation tests on primary and secondary furnish under near-production conditions. We combine the extensive expertise of all Voith Paper technology divisions in our research and development. And it shows. Your challenge: Quality. Cost-effectiveness. Environmental protection. Maintaining cost-effective papermaking while sustaining and advancing product quality demands careful attention to operating cost – especially raw materials, power, and waste disposal. Today‘s increasingly stringent environmental laws make this challenge a precarious tightrope to walk. Your benefits Voith Paper can help you meet this challenge. Our Fiber Systems Technology Center staff will partner with you to determine how best to maximize your quality, lower your costs, and simplify your systems. Voith FTC experts will help you analyze how to get optimal results from your furnish — including specific ways you can boost yield and cut down on power consumption. We take a precision-targeted approach to solving your problems, showing you how to minimize your process risks. With these facts and resources at your fingertips, you‘ll know when and why it makes sense to invest in progressive modern technologies. 2 3 Prepared for the future: FTC The Voith FTC incorporates a modern stock-preparation line with all primary machine components built to industrial scale. A flexible loop system design lets us test just about every conceivable system and subsystem setup and give you real-world results. We can test individual machines as well as entire systems. As new developments and advances occur, we systematically integrate them into our Technology Center lineup. The entire facility and all its processes are certified to ISO 9001 requirements. Once we‘ve talked with you in detail about your specific problems and questions, we‘ll work out a systematic test program that will give you answers tailored to your situation. We‘ll pinpoint, step by step, the various places where your processes can be improved to maximize their potential. We feed all readings and machine parameters into a sophisticated data-management system, and we‘ll begin laboratory analysis of stock samples as soon as the testing process is under way. You‘ll get a report that details all testing results, rich with charts and graphs that highlight and amplify key findings. This approach enables us The worldwide Voith test facility network enables ongoing perfection of our papermaking and processing technologies – to the benefit of our customers. Network to identify and eliminate potential risk factors early in the project and to clearly define the scope of work necessary to complete the project analysis. In other words, you‘ll know not only your investment outlay early on, but you will also know precisely how your investment will translate into cost savings for your operation. This enables us to separately optimize each module – including pulping, screening, flotation, refining and bleaching – for your specific requirements. Then we can demonstrate, for example, which fillings and power input you need for optimal refining results at your facility. Subsystem tests enable optimal coordination of individual process modules. For example, new concepts for pulping, fractionation, or flotation systems can be systematically implemented at the FTC. This allows for ongoing improvements in the properties of the finished paper. To make sure the results are realistic, stock taken from your current production can also be used for the trials. For ongoing optimization of the overall process, the FTC incorporates an entire stock-preparation line. This lets us test various kinds of furnish in different systems or variations. As a result, we can identify ways to reduce your primary fiber input and use more secondary furnish – without sacrificing paper quality. You then benefit simultaneously from lower furnish costs and the highest possible yield. This provides precise test data as a further basis for assessing our process-optimization results. Our laboratory services are also available to you regardless of whether you take advantage of the FTC test facilities. You can, therefore, benefit from the scientific know-how of our laboratory specialists for analyzing samples from your own stock preparation line. We offer rapid and precisely reproducible analyses of stock, water, and paper characteristics, using more than 80 different laboratory methods according to DIN, ISO, TAPPI or SCAN. of laboratory test data. The results provide you with a dependable and conclusive decision-making basis to support your process-optimization investments. We use a professional IT system for all sample management and logging 6 7 Process support and Engineering Process support Our process-support experts provide assistance in all aspects of papermaking, such as troubleshooting, production increases, and integrating new process modules or units. We start by analyzing the present state of your production line, taking samples and detailed balances, including evaluation of all your process technology data. From these findings, we develop a list of specific measures to take. In this way, our process support helps you make decisions that not only solve your short-term problems, but also bring sustainable improvements. Engineering Our engineering team supports you in the planning, concept, and realization stages of your new line, along with rebuilds and expansions. This support starts with the pre-engineering phase, when we work out an innovative line concept with you and tell you just how much you will have to invest. Next comes the basic engineering stage, where we determine both the necessary process machinery and groups and the line layout. Finally, in the detailed engineering phase, we establish with you precisely how your new line will be brought to fruition and installed, rebuilt or extended. Joining forces Rieger paper mill in Trostberg, Bavaria, produces high-grade coated paper and corrugated board from 100 percent recovered paper. The mill faces ongoing problems in stock preparation for the cover layer because of foreign materials, such as foil, in its furnish. During tests carried out alongside Rieger engineers at our Fiber Systems Technology Center, we developed a highly effective screening system for removing these contaminants. A few months later these excellent FTC test results were fully confirmed during commissioning of the actual machine. “During tests at the Voith FTC we were able to compare various options with our line status at that time,“ said Christopher Kässberger, Rieger stock preparation line manager. “As a result, we found the best and most cost-effective solution, based on full-scale findings. We were very impressed by the comprehensiveness of this test facility, the conclusive test results, and the professional competence of Voith Paper’s test engineers”. Christopher Kässberger, stock preparation line manager at Rieger paper mill in Trostberg, Germany. 8 9 The design flexibility of the Fiber Systems Technology Center allows us to provide customized support for all your individual project needs.
