Divide the class into small groups. Assign each group one of the following hazards to
prenatal development. Have them describe the effects to the class.
1. Alcohol
2. Smoking
3. Over-the-counter drugs such as aspirin, antibodies, laxatives, vitamins
4. Prescription drugs such as valium, barbiturates, antibodies
5. Street drugs such as heroin, cocaine, crack, marijuana, PCP
6. STDs
a. Chlamydia
b. Gonorrhea
c. Syphilis
d. Herpes
e. AIDS
7. Rubella
8. Parasites (from incomplete cooked meat or cat feces)
9. Poor nutrition (include what nutrients would be increased what foods should be
avoided.)
10. Radiation and pollution
