Elma Electronic UK have designed a small form factor, light weight ½
ATR chassis for use in harsh environments. The unit has been designed to house 3 off 3U VPX (VITA 48.2) payload cards and 1 of 3U VPX
(VITA 62) PSU and protect them from the external environment. The chassis incorporates a military grade high speed fan which provides air though sealed cooling channels on the side of the chassis. Detailed thermal modelling has been performed to ensure the chassis maintains optimum thermal performance at all operating altitudes. The operation of the fan can be monitored via a tachometer signal and optional speed control is available. The backplane can support up to 4 slots on a 1” pitch and up to 120 high speed differential pairs can be routed to the front panel connectors for interconnection with external equipment.
The design can be easily customised to suit individual customer requirements, and is always performed in conjunction with the overall system design to ensure the best EMC and thermal performance of the complete system.
