OPTICAL TRANSCEIVERS Harnessing more network power 2. 3. Expanding your network horizons Smartoptics expands your network horizons. Through optical transmission solutions tailored to each organization’s specific network demands. Our solutions are simple. Low cost to design and install. And certified by the major switch vendors ensuring highest quality standards. Smartoptics solutions can be leveraged wherever there is a dark fiber network available. Our transceivers can be used whenever an optical connection is required. Intra rack, inter rack, or between data sites. To lengthen the reach of your networks — for greater power at lower cost. Offering a more complete portfolio than those of the original equipment manufacturers of data switching equipment. 4. Going the distance Getting the most out of your fiber network means options: a range of flexible modules that cover all of your network needs. Optical transceivers for starters. Our products can be purchased and then re-reprogrammed for additional use through something we call, “Smart Hub.” Saving time. And money when network demands change. Smartoptics have revolutionized the data and telecom equipment market by replacing the need for standalone optical transmission systems to leveraging the increasing power and flexibility of pluggable transceiver modules. Our transceivers are fully compliant with all the latest Fibre Channel and Ethernet standards at data rates up to 100G allowing maximum network capacity. Applications range from data center and campus connectivity to enterprise and long distance networking. Any mix of SAN and WAN traffic sitting seamlessly together on the same network. Translating into greater network power at lower cost. Exclusively approved 8/16Gbps Fibre Channel solutions allow simple and convenient SAN/IP network connectivity. 5. Smartboard User friendly transceiver verification tool A convenient small and robust handheld module, Ideal for SFP, SFP+, XFP and QSFP transceiver verification. This simple USB-only powered solution, makes it the perfect tool for field, service and test engineers. Applications include part number and serial number (PID) readouts and tuning Tunable T-XFP & T-SFP+ transceivers. 6. A transceiver for every need To meet the needs of transporting multiple protocols of different speeds and types, we offer a range of solutions all aimed at expanding your network. C/DWDM Grey (uncolored) Data speed and protocol type Form factors C/DWDM transceivers are available for two different applications. Embedded xWDM systems where they are connected directly in a data switch to transport the C/DWDM wavelength channel from the switch to the dark fiber via a multiplexer. Or a transponder-based xWDM system that converts an 850nm signal to C/DWDM first. Then the C/DWDM transceiver carries this converted signal over a dark fiber network via a multiplexer. In this application, they are referred to as line transceivers. While an xWDM signal is a colored wavelength channel, a non xWDM signal is typically referred to as uncolored, or a grey signal. Grey transceivers are available in four main categories: short range (SR) transceivers for 850nm signal, long range (LR) for 1310nm, extended range (ER) for 1550nm and further extended reach (ZR) for 1550nm signals. Grey transceivers are used typically for single channel connectivity. The shorter ranges, 850 and 1310nm, are also used as the “client interface” to a transponder-based XWDM platform. Data exists in various speeds and applications. The output of a Fibre Channel SAN switch running at 16Gbps is different to that of an Ethernet WAN switch running at 100G requiring different types of transceivers supporting these different protocols. Fibre Channel transceivers run at 4/8/10/16/32G FC while Ethernet transceivers run at 1/10/40/100 Gigabit Ethernet. SDH/Sonet and video protocols are also common and require their own data rate signals. Transceivers exist for all these protocol types. The form factor is the physical shape and size of the transceiver. They vary in size depending on protocols and tend to get larger as the speeds get faster because of the amount of circuitry and signal conditioning required. 7. Smartoptics transceivers all form factors and applications “Sometimes it’s 250 kilometers to the next town. And to bridge that can be costly. So we needed to find a transmission equipment vendor who could close the gap that others couldn’t. That vendor was Smartoptics and their unique portfolio of optical transmission solutions enabled us to achieve these distances. With just a few simple components.” – Jannie Engelbrecht, Director, XON 8.
