Effective 6 FEB 2012 2011-2012 Catalog Degree Requirements Complete all general education requirements Complete the Computation and Communication Skills requirement (formerly known as Gordon Rule) o 12 credit hours of writing intensive courses with a grade of C or better AND o 6 credit hours of math courses at the level of College Algebra or above with a grade of C or better Meet the foreign language admissions requirement o two years of the same foreign language at the high school level OR o 8 credit hours of the same foreign language (including American Sign Language) at the collegiate level Complete the service learning requirement o Students admitted as first time in college or lower-level transfer students must complete 80 hours o Students admitted as upper-level transfer students must complete 40 hours Complete major course work with a minimum grade of C in each course (C minus is not considered a C) o common course prerequisites AND o required courses in the major AND o electives in the major AND o concentration coursework (if applicable) Earn a minimum of 120 credit hours o Maximum of 27 credit hours of business courses may count toward a non-business degree (per accreditation standards for Lutgert College of Business) o 30 of the final 60 credit hours must be completed at FGCU Earn a minimum of 48 credit hours in upper division courses (those numbered 3000 to 4999) Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in all course work attempted at FGCU If entering FGCU with fewer than 60 credit hours: earn at least 9 credit hours by attending one or more summer sessions at a State University System member institution in Florida Policies Applications to graduate must be submitted via Gulfline in the term of expected graduation by the deadline noted in the academic calendar. Transient coursework should be approved prior to enrollment at the visiting institution. A student enrolled in the same undergraduate course more than twice will be assessed an additional per credit hour fee. See current catalog for details. For students enrolling in a state university for the first time in or after the fall 2009 semester (but before the fall 2011 semester), a tuition rate surcharge will be applied for credit hours that exceed 120% of the completion requirements for the chosen degree program. The surcharge will apply to all “excess hours” and will amount to 50% of the tuition rate. For a program that requires 120 credit hours to graduate, all hours that exceed 144 would count as excess. For students enrolling in a state university for the first time in or after the fall 2011 semester, a tuition rate surcharge will be applied for credit hours that exceed 115% of the completion requirements for the chosen degree program. The surcharge will apply to all "excess hours" and will amount to 100% of the tuition rate. For a program that requires 120 credit hours to graduate, all hours that exceed 138 would count as excess.
