Layfield’s TurfPro™ Products
Maintaining turf hardiness, preventing wind / frost
desiccation and promoting growth in the spring are all
major challenges confronting Golf Course Superintendents
in colder climates throughout North America.
Layfield manufacturers three styles of winter and spring
turf cover systems, called TurfPro™, to assist golf
superintendents in protecting their greens. TurfPro™
stabilizes soil temperature fluctuation thereby maintaining
turf hardiness levels which enhances spring germination
by preventing premature plant moisture level increases.
TurfPro™ insulates & protects the turf from frost, freezing
temperatures & strong winds.
TurfPro™ 1 is a multi-layer, insulated, impermeable cover
that has been tested and proven to provide exceptional
insulation value to maintain superior plant hardiness levels
of the protected turf. It is constructed of a high strength,
white, reinforced polyethylene outer shell with a special
closed cell foam insulating layer.

TurfPro™ 2 is a single layer, grey colored, permeable,
spun bond geotextile fabric. It comes with a reinforced
perimeter edge construction. This product is lightweight
and ideal as an early spring cover to accelerate plant
germination and to establish a high color rating.
TurfPro™ 3 is also a single layer cover. It is an
impermeable, natural colored reinforced polyethylene
product that performs as a high strength barrier used in
both winter and spring.
Reinforced, hemmed edges provide support for industrial grade steel spikes or
6" x I” staples. Installation of perimeter 1/2" brass spur grommets are optional.

TurfPro™ 1
Turfs will start to harden when there is
a decline in temperature but need a
period of freezing temperatures to
completely harden. When they harden
their moisture content decreases & it’s
ability to resist freezing temperatures
increases. Generally the opposite
effect occurs in the spring. As
temperatures increase, the turf breaks
dormancy & initiates growth & loses
TurfPro™ 2
hardiness. Studies have revealed turfs
that initiated early spring growth are
more susceptible to freezing injury due
to their reduced hardiness. It is very
common in spring to have cold
temperature spells after a period of
warmth. TurfPro covers stabilize soil
temperature fluctuations in the spring
thereby maintaining turf hardiness.
