3+1 Regular Curriculum Study Program
Because the students study their major for one year at a sister
university, the students must have the ability to study in the
language of that country. Accordingly, the selection process is
quite strict.
Convergence Training in one’s Major and Language
This convergence program for language studies and major
studies allows students to study for one semester at a sister
university overseas. Students study some courses in their
major subject and study language at that university’s language
institute.
3+1 Major Study Program
During the second semester of their second year or the first
semester of their third year, the students of The College of
Global Business and Foreign Languages (English, Chinese,
Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Global Leisure & Tourism) and of
the College of Theology and Pure Love can participate in group
study abroad programs at a sister university.
Study Abroad and Training by Major
Focusing on the special nature of each department, many
programs have been developed and are being run for students to
study abroad at a sister university for a minimum period of 10 days
to a maximum period of one semester based on their majors.

Mutual Exchange Program
The Mutual Exchange program allows Sun Moon and a sister
university to exchange students 1:1 for study abroad. The
students may study their major or the language of that country.
The students pay the tuition to their own university and study
abroad at the sister university.
2+2 Major Study Program
This program allows a student to study two years at Sun Moon,
and two years abroad at a sister university for double degrees.
The departments currently carrying out this program are the
Department of Chinese Language and Chinese Studies (China),
Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Australia),
and the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering
(Australia).

KLI
Curriculum
The Sun Moon Korean Language Institute (KLI) was founded on March 20th 1989, with the purpose
of spreading Korean language and culture to the world. Ever since its establishment, more than
13,000 students from over 132 countries have studied at KLI. Many of them went on to further their
studies at Korean universities including Sun Moon University. Those who have returned to their
countries have often been employed by local Korean companies or they have become Korean
language teachers or translators. Consistent with its vision to specialize as an International
Campus, SMU is devoted to the education of its 1000 students from 80 countries who enroll in SMU
every year. Over the years, KLI has built an outstanding reputation. It was chosen for the "Korean
Language Training Program University Grant" by the Ministry of Education and designated as a
language institute for the Korean language education of the scholars in the Korean Government
Scholarship Program. This has made Sun Moon’s Korean Language Institute an acknowledged
language institute locally and internationally. Moreover, in order to ensure that students are able to
have a good experience while studying in Korea, KLI does not offer only Korean language education;
it also provides opportunities for students to experience Korean culture firsthand by visiting
famous places in Korea; it provides counseling about university enrollment, and it provides Korean
language tutoring programs when needed.
If students are interested in becoming Korean language instructors after completing the Korean
language course at KLI, they can take the undergraduate course as well as the graduate course
offered by SMU's Korean Language and Literature Department. KLI also dispatches skilled
language instructors to sister schools and institutes to disseminate Korean language overseas.
01 Objective
The Korean Language Institute’s objective is to enable international students and
overseas Koreans to develop Korean language skills from beginner to advanced levels
and to understand Korean traditional culture and history. KLI’s objective is also to help
students prepare for degree programs taught in Korean and to share Korea’s beautiful
traditional customs with the world.

Introducing the KLI
/ SMU KLI Curriculum
To ensure that all international students can enjoy a comfortable and safe study life
in Korea, all international students are required to reside in the campus dormitory.
All students that reside in the dormitory are, of course, required to obey the rules and
regulations of the dormitory. This experience cultivates globally competent individuals
because living in a community enhances the students’ social adaptability while
studying abroad allows them to experience a different culture.
