Adam Braun is the Founder and CEO of Pencils for Promise, an award-winning nonprofit that has opened
more than 150 schools across Africa, Asia and Latin America. In 2012, he was named to the Forbes 30
Under 30 list. Inspired by a begging boy who asked for a pencil on the streets of India, Braun left a dream
job to launch his nonprofit, which was awarded “Education Organization of the Year” in 2013. A triple
major graduate from Brown University, Braun has been featured at Clinton Global Initiative, Google
Zeitgeist and in Wired Magazine’s 2012 Smart List of 50 People Changing the World. He has a massive
online following, and will debut his book, The Promise of a Pencil: How an Ordinary Person Can Create
Extraordinary Change, in March.
This event is made possible thanks to support from the Office of the Provost,
