What Are Modifications?
Modifications are substantial changes in what a student is expected to learn and demonstrate.
Changes, may be made in the instruction level, the content, or the performance criteria. Such changes
are made to provide a student with meaningful and productive learning experiences, environments, and
assessments that are based on that individual's needs and abilities.
Modifications require a change in the type and amount of work expected of the students. For
example, a student may be working at a lower level than other students in the class. In other
instances, the student may be working on a skill related to the skills upon which other students are
focusing (Pierangelo & Giuliani, 2007).
Modification might include changes in the following.
