Surds – multiplying and dividing
When we multiply surds, we:
1. multiply any whole numbers written in front of the √ sign
2. multiply the numbers under the √ sign.
So
6√3 + 2√5 = 12√15
When we divide surds, we:
1. divide any whole numbers written in front of the √ sign
2. divide the numbers under the √ sign.
So
8√6 ÷ 2√3 = 4√2
or
8√6 = 4√2
2√3
