Since 2004, the value (in current prices) of exports of plastic monofilament of any cross-sectional dimension exceed 1 mm (SITC group 583) increased
on average by 12.3 percent each year and amounted to US$5.2 bln in 2008 (table 2). Graph 1 shows that in 2008, its exports increased by 8.3
percent, compared to 14.1 percent for world exports of chemicals and related products, nes (SITC section 5) and 15.3 percent for total world exports.
It accounted for 0.3 percent of world exports of chemicals and related products, nes (SITC section 5) and less than 0.1 percent of total world exports
(table 1).
In 2008, Germany, the top exporting country accounted for more than a third (36.3 percent) of world exports (table 2). Other major exporting countries
were Belgium and Poland, respectively with 7.9 and 7.3 percent of world exports. Top destinations were Ukraine, France and Russian Federation
(table 3). By MDG regions (graph 2), A majority of trade in plastic monofilament (SITC group 583) took place in Developed Europe. In 2008, its
exports were valued at US$3.9 bln while imports reached US$3 bln resulting in a trade surplus of US$1 bln. Significant deficits were recorded by
Commonwealth of Independent States (US$-0.9 bln) and South-Eastern Europe (US$-0.4 bln).
