Garbage Questions?
The City will accept for free, the disposal of
small rechargeable batteries.
Packing materials accepted includes: large
foam packing materials, foam packing peanuts
and bubble wrap. Please bag all material and
tie closed.

Hazardous and Medical Wastes
Fluorescent bulbs and tubes, needles, liquids,
fuel tanks, computers and TVs are not allowed
in garbage or recycling.
Most of an item’s carbon footprint is from producing
and using it — only a small percentage in disposing of it.

These items are neither recyclable nor compostable. Please put them in the gray garbage tote.
Do not bag or box recyclables. Place clean and empty items in blue recycling cart.
All of these materials can go in your green organics cart.
COLLECTION GUIDELINES

Food scraps and leftovers
Foam take-out containers, foam cups or packing peanuts, plastic utensils, prescription vials,
diapers, motor oil containers, garden hoses, snack bag wrappers, bows, etc.
Flattened cardboard (limit 2x2 ft), newspapers, inserts, magazines, catalogs, phonebooks,
paperback books, mail (window envelopes OK), paper bags, and food boxes.
Meat, fish, dairy, fruit, vegetables, shells, bones, pasta, rice, eggshells, nutshells, bread,
grains and leftovers.
Please place containers at the curb by 7 a.m.

City of Anacortes Garbage Guidelines
˜ All garbage must be bagged in the tote or City pre-paid bags.
˜ Double bag pet waste, packing pellets, vacuum dust, sawdust, and cold ashes.
› Weight limit: 32 gallon or 21 gallon tote. Maximum weight per can or prepaid bag is 55
pounds, in accordance with Ordinance #2393.
› Please provide unobstructed access to your totes and bags within 5 feet from the curb.
Leave 3 feet of space between all totes.
› Obstructed cans will not be dumped.
MISSED GARBAGE POLICY
Totes and pre-paid bags that are not placed at the curb at the time of crew arrival will not be
picked up until your next scheduled service day. Return or make-up service will not be provided.
EXTRA GARBAGE
› Must be placed in City pre-paid bags on your pickup day.
› Pre-paid bags are available at City Hall, The Market, Old Salts, Safeway, Sebo’s and

bag above the tie for pickup.

Organics Tips

into the cart so that they can be easily sorted.

Weather delay? If weather conditions prevent safe collection a double
load of garbage or recycling will be collected at no extra charge on your next
regular collection day.

No credits will be issued for collection delays caused by weather.
Extra organics: There is a charge for extra organics.
Put extra yard waste in kraft paper bags or 32-gallon containers
with handles and lids (65 lb. limit), label “yard.”
